The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

There's a pretty spot-on and funny review of AvP:R over at AICN right now (with spoilers). If you want to check it out, here's the link.

I think this quote sums it up best:

Quote:
I have enough problems accepting aliens on earth in the present day, because of how stupid and insignificant that makes Ripley's story. Still, I was willing to accept this as a cheesy PREDATOR sequel. But the story is not a PREDATOR story, it's a worse than usual NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET sequel. I'm surprised they didn't throw in a part about how the parents don't believe the kids that there are aliens and predators.

Sounds like they made a typical installment of Friday the 13th or Halloween.

It certainly does belittle Ripley's outburst about how if "just one of those things gets down here" were screwed.

Good thing we had our friend the Predator to prevent us from extinction.

Meh... I actually do want to see this now... just to see how bad bad can be. But I'm unwilling to spend the moolah for the theater.

AvPv The O.C.

Oh we don't have the Predator to thank completely for that...

And I dunno... I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Wolfe was female. Or maybe it just gave me a humungous hard on while watching the movie...

WHAT???

By the way, I just saw the flick a second time and I enjoyed it more than the first. I would now say my biggest complaint is the fact that some scenes are rediculously dark.

And this time through, I noticed that the musical score is actually fantastic, IMO.

I still don't get why people say the movie was so dark? It wasn't as dark as say... Escape from New York was. I could see things just fine, and I'm not good with dark scenes usually.

I'd say it was too dark in places like the end scene.....you couldn't get a good look at the costumes. But this coming from a costumer.....so my guess it that just us are complaining.

But dark skies, plus rain and dark costumes = dark scene.
I still liked it though :)

The theater I saw it in was fine, not everyone projects their films with same wattage of bulbs, and some older projectors can project a darker image. I saw the Blade Runner final cut in an old theater, and it was a bit on the dim side (and the sound sucked) so those can be factors.

I'm betting if this was digitally projected it would look good.

But, the fight scenes were a little difficult to follow because there were scenes with no key lighting to help you visually identify what was going on. And then the rain, it just looked like shiny bumpy body parts slamming into each other.

Just saw an advert for the film on ITV (during Predator :D ) and the film's got a 15 rating over here. :?

So does that mean it's been censored?

Apologies if this has already been answered/reported elsewhere. :)

It's rated 14A here in Canada (which is along the lines of the US PG-13 equivalent).

I don't think it's been censored.

So does that mean it's been censored?

The BBFC page on the film says it was passed as a 15 with no cuts.

Personally, I thought the story for "Colonial Marines: Elite Force"
was better than "Requiem".

Saw this tonight and liked it lots. :)

The only (minor) complaint I'd have is that the film is very dimly lit, then you suddenly get a very bright bit (such as Pred POV bits with high contrast) which made me wince a few times as it was a bit hard on the eyes.

I saw this film with steve...liked it a lot..if you expect a equal to Cameron's film then you will hate it..but as a predator film its great... and yes as steve says its a bit dimly light, when it comes out on dvd watch it with the brightness turned up...

lots of nods to the other predator / alien films...opening titles even had the sound of the motion tracker...

watch this film for what it is .. a great big punch up

the alien pred hybrid...did not know until saw the film that it was a cross between queen and predator....... the bit in the hospital was disturbing.... :o

was too short....could have done with more back story with the main actors

Just home, and I see it like this...

If the first 7 films were albums, this is the "Best Of" greatest hits compilation :)
