The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Now that the Leicester weekend is over, I'm finally giving away my sentry gun terminal program to whoever wants it.

It's in Flash so it probably doesn't help you if you own a real GRiD, but it should work on most other computers.

How it works:

Stage 1:

Image

Entirely made up by me. ;) Leads into...

Stage 2:

Image

Setup screen. Move around and set options with the four cursor keys. When you've finished press SPACE to move on to...

Stage 3:

Image

Firing screen (the business end). Press F to fire! Temperature goes up, ammo counter goes down. If you get bored of that, press Z to put it in 'auto' mode. This will just fire at random intervals until the ammo runs out, at which point it will start again. A single pixel in the lower right corner confirms that you're in auto mode.

Pressing R will restart the simulation.

Pressing A, B, C or D will change the letter in the upper corners for a different gun. Purely cosmetic.

That's all! The .swf file is attached to this post. I hope you like it. :)

Mac... I hope so. Tell you what, when you get a chance let me know whether it works or not. If it doesn't I think I can make a standalone or 'projector' file. Or something.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. This is the same program you may have seen running on Osmotic's laptop at the NSC, or CplTony's at SoonerCon last year. I thought it was time to share. :D

Well you beat me to it; I was just starting this in Flash for my old IBM Thinkpad with docking station that looks very much like a GRiD!

Thanks for sharing though - pictures of this running soon I hope :D

Mike, this is so cool! And I don't mean to sound ungreatful, but would there be any way to work in gunfire sounds from the film when you press the fire key?

That would be the icing on the cake. :)

Thanks, Mike.

It's always nice to see other people's Sentry Programs. That's three in existence now (as far as I know). All done in completely different ways.

Thanks Mike! Great Job.

Now someone who knows what they're doing needs to step up and do something similar for the old Grids. :)

Thanks everyone. I did try the gunfire sound but it didn't sound great - plus I thought it more logical not to hear it. :P

Re file formats - I thought a .swf was universal but apparently it's not. Sorry about that. I have now made standalone files for both Mac and PC. You can download them here. Much larger file size but they should run on any PC or Mac (I hope). Maybe someone can let me know.

Just so DSB doesn't feel alone out there...

I too was interested in having gunfire sounds added. True enough it would be logical that we wouldn't hear it, but going on the movie the crew could hear the muffled sound of gunfire from the sentry guns (even through the barricade and sealed pressure doors  ). They were pretty darn loud! :D
