The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ripper, can you please confirm which one of these awards you have been decorated with?

Oh yeah, forgot about this thread. :)

Err, the CAP is the civilian Auxiliary to the Air Force. I'm only in it because it's the closest I have to the real deal right now.

I have been given 3 awards. (They're pretty much doled out like candy in the CAP.)

Many thanks, Dom. Many thanks.

I know a CAP lad, Cadet-General-of-the-world or whatever his rank is :P (Never could get used to this idea of Cadet Officer ranks)
He's got more ribbons on his chest than half of the highly decorated WWII veterans I see at Remembrance day.

Our Air Cadets in the UK have a brassard, worn on the right arm, on which they wear badges for a number of the things that the CAP seem to award a "Medal" for.
The number of badges are limited with some being worn in leui of other less significant awards.

Holy crap!

Man! I think the CAP certainly is "ribbon happy"!

Some of them are for promotions to higher officer rank? I would think if you get promoted from captain to major the rank on your shoulders would be enough... You need a ribbon on your chest too?

Though I do like this one:

CAP Orientation Pilot Ribbon

When I was in Air Cadets- I was a glider familiarization pilot (basically you gave "rides" to the cadets to get them interested in being pilots). I just checked my old log book... I've done exactly 100 of those flights.

But I don't need a ribbon for it.

It's funny- for those who don't know, the first ribbon in my sig is my Air Cadet Service award. This is presented to cadets who have given a minimum of four years continuous distinguished service (I was in for six straight years with an additional year as an instructor).

I graduated in 1989, but the award was introduced in 2005. However any former cadet is eligible to wear it. As far as I know, there are only five other medals/ribbons a cadet can wear.

Image

These are highly distinguished medals for actions such as bravery, meritorious service, and community involvement.

There are several other awards- but these are displayed as pins (such as the Duke of Edinburgh award), or acheivement badges on the sleeve (similar to Boy Scout merit badges).

Sorry... didn't mean to go off on such a tangent.

Carry on!

Yeah, Kev, back in the day, I know.
To be fair, you have to remember that CAP is also a youth youth program. It's targeted at minors from about 8 up.
At the same time, don't discount everything based on that. We do Emergency Services and Search/Rescue too.

Thanks a bunch, Dom. I really do appreciate it. I didn't mean to a big deal out of some ribbons...

Ripper

Oh hey guys, I should promote next week.
+1 Ribbon :)

Just a reminder to all new guys: If you would like a commemorative ribbon (as seen in some of our signatures) for your combat drops (Con attendance in USCM uniform), please contact me here with the city where the event took place and the total times attended.

Thanks!
