The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

What's with all the Stormies etc? I thought this was an Aliens+gen sci-fi event.

Don't recall there being any last time (I think).

"harsh language"

which i will try ever so hard not to use this weekend...unless of course i drop my PR and it breaks

I`m (Jason Stead) also down for AL/UKCM Colonial Marine duties (Sat) too Malikaand :D

As for the presence of Imps, well they want to see what it`s like to face real opponents like Aliens & Predators & not pesky Rebel Scum ;) :D

So be nice & share your training with them. From what I`ve heard Stormies can just about hit the side of a Jawa Sandcrawler :D Or with their bigger guns a Planet

I should be down for AL / UKCM duties as a Colonial Marine both days, including AE.

Stormtroopers can't hit nuffin, seriously, how can they miss a 7' wookie in a 8' tall corridor.

They'd probably be able to hit something if they took their helmets off.

Since when was Star Wars not Sci-fi?????

When I last looked they had guns, explosions and spaceships - therefore fits the criteria!

That's actually an interesting question. Personally, I see it more as "Fantasy with spaceships".

Furthermore, "guns, explosions and spaceships" is not what makes Science-Fiction. It's speculation about current/future technology and it's implications. Star Wars is much more concerned with mysticism ("the Force" etc) than it is any of the "technology" that is used as window dressing.

Can't help notice the lack of a certain Sci-Fi series that has existed longer than all the others being represented, with the exception of Doctor Who, though admitedly, slightly less "butch".

It was my understanding this was to be a non-SW event as last time.

Not really sure what the issue is with having Stormtroopers there, this is a Sci-fi event and as far as I am concerned (stop the navel gazing Gareth  ) Star Wars fits the bill.

If you are interested in the above I am happy to say that Space 1999 will be represented by Matt Irvine, the NSC has an original Clanger on display and I will bring my wooden spoon to keep the cauldron moving that you can borrow to replicate your fave sceens from Button Moon.

It could be worse Si.
We could suffer what DCon is alas succuming too WWII re-enactors turning up too ;) :D

As said Colonial Marines are the Bad Ass of Scifi genre, just be generous in teaching others how to Hit their targets ;) :D Those Stormies need all the help.
Hey maybe that`s why the Arc commandos used the minigun? So a stray could hot the target :D

Last year there were Star Wars Characters on the Sunday. The Photostand makes more money with these iconic characters than any other. People were asking where are the Star Wars Characters? - so this year they are in. It's all about getting punters into the event.

As for the Stormtroopers being poor marksmen, who cares it's written in the script, blame Lucas. Blame Cameron as well for a civilian female kicking Alien Butt ,whilst the USCM got wiped out. I love both films myself and are looking forward to seeing everyone's sci-fi costume.

Now a Proton pack, thats kicks ass esp a giant marshmallow one!
