Bumpity bump. This will not fall to page 2 again.

So, okay. Let's start discussing some other aspects of the uniform which will be applicable regardless of which jacket is used.

1. Patches. Which? Where? I'm all about the "less is more" mentality but would really enjoy seeing ship patches.

2. Deltas: Derek, what's the plan with those?

3. Ribbons... has anyone experimented yet? Dom, can you send me mine in 1:1 scale so I can try printing them out? I'd like to try out the idea I posted about a while back.

4. Belt. Have we all agreed on the Sam Browne? (at least the regular belt part... we may have to poll about the shoulder strap)

Notice the shoulder strap on the Sam Browne. I'm starting to really like the shoulder strap idea.

Also what is that on his left breast pocket?

Just to keep everyone in the loop- no word back yet from the jacket supplier. I'm going to try and get ahold of him again this weekend (even if it is just through email). He did say it would take a few days to go through his stock. And it's Thanksgiving weekend up here so he might not be in over the next couple of days.

Not good news, I know, but not bad either.

Ok I just got off the phone with the jacket seller.

Here is the deal: the larger sizes like the 48L's are a longshot- he is going to make every effort to find ones in that size, but he does not have high hopes of finding them.

Sorry Wookie- but he told me right off the bat he doesn't have your size.

He is going to go through his stock to find exact matches of the other sizes mentioned. What might have to be done is find ones in our chest size and have the lengths tailored. For instance Devil Dog and I need a 40 short jacket. He said he might have this size in regular.

As for the larger sizes- he did mention something about getting two jackets to make one larger one (he said he would throw in the second jacket at no charge). I'm not sure if this is a viable option as I have never heard of making a smaller jacket larger.

As far as condition goes they are in very good used condition. He said the most obvious flaw would be loose strings where the previous unit patches were attached. These are not strings from the jacket itself, but the string used to attach the patch to the sleeves.

He said he will look for ones that have red piping. Failing that he will look for our sizes with no piping.

Price: $50.00 each.

As far as future availability- this might be an issue. He said he has three tractor trailers with surplus garments that he could sift through. He knows he could probably come up with the initial list of 11 jackets (again not necessariliy the larger sizes), but as for more jackets in the future- it is uncertain as these are a rare find.

Future Marines may have to resort to choosing the blue jacket with gold piping pictured on pg 26, or find another option altogether.

So for now he is going to search through his stock for the sizes we requested. He will get back to me in a week.

One thing he did mention: he has black pants with red stripes. About 600 pairs. They range from 27 1/2 inches to 40 inches with many of each size in between. Price: $20 each.



I know the red stripe is much thinner than the USMC bloodstripe. Just something to think about.

As far as making it larger, there are ways, but depending on the way the jacket is made, it will be difficult to do cleanly. Does the jacket have a seam down the center back?

Thanks guys. Everybody hold off on payment until I get this squared away. The seller still has to come up with our sizes.

Once he gets back to me this is how I would like to handle it:

I will purchase one tunic in my size and have him ship it to me. This way I can give it the once-over checking out fit (in case the sizes are wonky like Rex experienced), quality, smell (surplus can get musty ya'know ), and then provide you guys with a picture of it one me.

Next I will ask for an invoice from the seller for all the jackets ordered with shipping.

I will then provide my Paypal account and ask for payment of $50 per jacket plus shipping. The shipping amount will be whatever the total shipping is divided by the number of people who ordered jackets (I don't believe this will be more than a few dollars at most).

Once the jackets arrive at my house I will ask for a second payment to cover shipping to your homes.



I don't know for sure, but my educated guess is that it has two seams that run from the armpits to the base of the tunic like this:



Jay- it's cool man. Better to say something now rather than order a jacket and change your mind later.

Rex about the pants- will it really be necessary add a bloodstripe to these ourselves? I figured we wouldn't have to if they already have a thin red stripe.

If the red stripe isn't thick enough for everyone's taste (personally I like the thicker bloodstripe too)- then I think we should just purchase black pants on our own. Before the seller told me about the pants, I bought a pair of black dress slacks from Walmart for $19.97.
