The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey all!
I was attending Dragon*Con. I met a group of ya'll there, and saw lots around. I'm currantly starting to work on my own outfit so I can participate, even if it's only at DragonCon.
You were all so friendly!! Thanks a lot and thanks for giving me the info to find you online. I'll be around, gathering up bits and pieces as I can.
I've found quite a bit on the pulse rifles, and have a line of some ideas, and kits, and props.
How about smart guns? Anything you can use to make one, other than the real german tank killing massive real gun?
I've been browsing through here reading. Hope I manage to not offend anyone, and hope to have some fun!

Another Floridian! Where from?

Let's see... armor from Spat. 2pats from MAA. etc etc etc.

Check the threads and peruse a bit before choosing 1 impression. Hell Dom has a zillion (check the other thread from the other new Floridian).

And I'd hazard that smartgunner, while impressive is the most expensive Marine kit.

Tough call really, because you can put a full USCM Infantry suit togeather including a decent pulse rifle for about $1200 or so.

Smartgunner has a little less involved, but the parts are more specialty, and there will be more custom building and less "buying off the rack."

Figure $500 or so for the basic resin smartgun (give or take) and perhaps another $300-$400 to build yourself a steadicam arm if you want it semi-functional. Sure, you could go real and spend $15K on the Steadicam... but who can afford that these days. :)

It really boils down to which impression you want to go with. You could go the least expensive and go Dropship pilot for under $250 including SPH-4 helmet. :)

The choice is really up to you.

My impression was cheaper I think.

$50 for a flak vest
$80 for Greaves, hat, and neck guard from Spat
$50 for Nerf Longshot and paints, sealants, etc
$30 at army surplus for belt, pouches, t shirt, gloves, etc.
$2 headset

$212ish

Not canon, very EUB, but comfortable in the Southern heat.

Exactly. How much you spend really depends on the look YOU want. You can spend a little and fit in, or a lot. It's really up to you. Some are "accuracy" buffs, so they go for the most authentic armor and gear. Some are just in for fun, or on a budget, and do what they can. We welcome all groups. As long as you don't just dress in a helmet and a towel. Oh, wait that's been done...

;)

Haha!! No towels for me. I'd hate to get booted on being offensive in person for that.
I was thinking of making my armor out of ABS, I've made SCA armor before. Is that allowed? I have a local source for almost any of the plastics.
I MIGHT...... "MIGHT" have a source for a used steadicam(minus the cam itself of course!!), but I won't know for a while yet. If it doesn't come through, I might attempt making one.
I got my patches, and will be grabbing BDUs shortly, unless you know of a better source online. The local "Army Surplus" places seem super expensive here. I did Tank Girl for DragonCon, and paid $32 for a pair of shorts.
Right now, I want to go with infantry, pulse rifle style weapons. I'm actually considering the $750 package deal there.. helmet, armor, and pulse rifle kit? Rocking!!
Thanks for the great welcome, can I post a picture I took of me with the crew I met at DragonCOn? I don't know who was in the picture.

It would take more than that to get booted. :)

Welcome to the Corps!! Glad you have you aboard Marine!!

We love to help others get started right in guns and gear! 8)

Where's this $750- package? Spats?

What type of PR are you looking for? Resin? Airsoft? Sumthin' in between?

Are you looking for the screen accurate bdu's or "close enough"

I think I'll start with a resin PR, and close enough is my motto in life and BDUs.
I went and posted over on the intro thread too, I guess I didn't do that already. I must have thought I did, when I actually posted on a intro thread somewhere else.
The $750 was the SpatCave, yes. had to doublecheck.
I did find a non-firing MG42 for sale. But I think it would be entirely too heavy, and some replica folks might dissasemble ME if they knew what I was gonna do to it.
Grins.
Love them props.
Theresa

Expensive Army Surplus store? Sounds like Gainesville. We have crap here for surplus except belts and pouches. None of which are screen accurate... lol.
