The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

It can be Crimson or burgundy pants guys- no problem. I wasn't expecting bright red pants.

I like the white belt- (and not to go against you Rex) but on a dress uniform I like seeing those white perma-shine belts that are made of vinyl (can't remember what they are made of- it's like a plastic with the large brass buckle).

Man! If we could get those buckles made with the Delta symbol on them (like raised relief), that would be insane!! :D

I also agree that the ranks should be army ranks so as not to cause confusion with actual USMC Dress Blues.

For the shooting qualification badges- for now I think we should try and stick with one choice. Sure there are many designs to choose from and work off of, but we want to take this a step at a time and keep it simple.

OK here's the latest mock up:

I'm liking the direction so far!

Looking better all the time!

That's the same belt that sprang into my mind as well.
Gloss white PVC.

The only thing that niggles in my mind is the clash between the crimson piping and trousers and the green background to the rank chevrons.

Yeah it doesn't quite look right with me either.

Perhaps we can find rank with a black background?

Do they make those?

Not sure.

They could always be made to order of course but it'll be more cost.

Instead of shoulder rank how about a delta pin on one side and a brass rank pin on the other?

Due to the apparent preference for Army rank insignia, I've found that the new U.S. Army blue uniform does have gold rank with a midnight blue background. It's not black... but... check it out.

Third one down. It's the coat I originally linked to on page one of this thread. :D

Oh hell yes... it's perfect.

Now, do we all settle on black, or midnight blue? The rank chevrons to go on the uniform have the midnight blue background...

Well... we we're going to go with black so the uniform would not have any blue in it. Hence distinguishing it from real Dress Blues.

Not too sure if you read the beginning of this thread- there was a bit of controversy over some thoughts of it being too close to USMC Dress Blues.

We did not want to infringe on the real USMC so we made little adjustments to have not look exactly like Dress Blues, and yet still retain a logical progression for a Marine parade dress uniform. The idea being how it might look 200 years from now.

Right, I caught all of that and I really don't think a midnight blue coat would infringe at all... especially with the crimson pants.

Having been a Marine, I can say that I wouldn't be offended by it. A full dress blue uniform worn by someone who never was a Marine would be a different story... this, however, is wildly different, yet still gives the nod toward the Corps.

Though, I can understand what you were talking about, and black would look badass. I just wonder if the midnight blue from the army ranks (provided that's what people would opt to use) would look strange, or if it'd be so muted as to not be noticable.

Do we know what the button codes mean? My guess is that P is Police, FD is Fire Department and S is Public Safety, but we might want to check on that before people start ordering.

Welllll, Midnight Blue patches on Midnight Blue jackets would look realllly cool... 8)

Not to throw a monkey wrench into the works...but reality being what it is...we just might want to reconsider the Ike jacket.

With this jacket costing $349, just how many Marines will buy it?

The Ike Jacket, with 10 orders, is only $189- Huge difference for a jacket we're going to wear to dinner on Friday/Sat nights. And maybe stand around in afterwards...

Don't get me wrong, I do prefer the other one, but $350 for the coat, how much would the pants be? Service Cap? Shoes?

I don't know if a seamstress could do it much cheaper or not...

Is there another choice where to get the jacket?

I mean it would be awesome, but I'm not sure I want to pay that much bros. I know seeing Kev, Dom and whoever else commits standing there in the outfit, I'd want it...

I think he originally chose that particular coat simply because it looks much like the USMC Dress Blue jacket; this is due to the high collar, etc.

The Ike jacket, without the high collar, doesn't look quite as good... though I do understand your concern over the cost.

I've been searching around to see if anyone else has that particular jacket and I'm not finding it.

Also, in regards to the crimson slacks, it was suggested to me that I try looking for band uniforms... which is a grand idea, but I can't seem to find any sites which just list buying pants as an option. If anyone else could try this approach as well, it may yield some sort of result.

Yeah the coat is expensive. To me it would totally kick all kinds of ass though. If we can find the same design for less money terrific. Like I said- I figured something like this from head to toe would be in the $500 range.

About the colour- If everyone (especially the military members here) is ok with midnight blue (in order to match the Army blue ranks) I'd be happy to go with midnight blue instead of black. It was actually my first choice! :D

As for pants- not sure if this place sells them on their own or not:

http://www.ictuslimited.com/pdf.asp

We could look into finding a set of crimson or maroon dress pants on our own, and having a seamstress add the 1 inch black stripe ourselves. Might be easier than finding a band uniform place that just sells pants?

Only problem with that is everyone's pants might not be exactly the same colour.

Latest changes applied:

Okay, I'm still in for the jacket. No worries. On the Midnight Blue though, is it darker than what you did in the mockup bro?

Another thought if it's close to the mock up color... Not sure how the crimson pants would look w/ blue...

If we are all getting pants on our own, Kev's totally right, getting the shades of crimson to match just ain't going to happen.

What about black pants? We could do that easily enough... 8)

Add either a red stripe or yellow/gold or ?

Course, I'm not even going to mention how bitchin' it would look then to have a black jacket w/ the black pants...nooooo, not even going to bring it up. Nada, nope, zip!

But, Black jacket, black pants, white service cap, white belt...ohhhhh Kev...can we puhl-eeeeze get a mock up of it?!

:D :D :D

Really I have no clue what shade the blue would be- I just went with a dark blue colour to offset the black version. I assume with the actual jacket it would be that nearly black looking blue. Not Air Force blue.

If we go with black pants I would prefer a red stripe as the piping on the jacket would be red.

However it would start going back in the direction of real Dress Blues methinks.

I dunno.

So a couple of more mock ups:

Here is the blue a lot darker with black pants/red stripe:
(I especially like this look)

Image

And now all black: (This was CWMock's original idea- just with a white belt and service cap now)

Image

Wadda ya think?

The black pants look ultra cool- and it would be mega easy for everyone to get black pants and have a red stripe added- just a question of it looking too close to dress blues again.

Black certainly looks sharp.

And, again... it may look close to dress blue, but.... it's not BLUE.

Again, having been a Marine, I see no problem here. Of course, that's my personal opinion and may differ from that of other individuals.

White hat, white belt-

I am soooo there!! In fact, I'll pony up to the bar...if we go this route, I will place my order for the black jacket...

TODAY!!

Find me where to order the hat and belt and I'll do that too!!

(pants I'm okay with, I can do that on my own...)

Okay, I am sooo jazzed about this!!

The sleeve hash marks- Let's narrow it down a bit.

Are they for:

1) DragonCon ONLY?

2) Any Con

3) Any Gathering of at least 3-4 Marines in full gear for say, 4+ hours?

Option #3 or #2 seems the most easy-going version. Plus, it would also encourage more get togethers, photoshoots, etc.
