The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi there!

Stefan (Bug Stomper) recently sent me this image. He remembers downloading it around 2003, but doesn't know where the original is from.
It seems to be a scan from a magazine or a book.

I downloaded that image back then as well but didn’t make any notes or change the file name so I have no idea.

I’m more thorough now though!

I kinda feel like that might be from an old Japanese ARMS Magazine that had a special on sci-fi guns. I can check later when I'm home.

Yep, that seems to be it! The layout seems to match perfectly:

A possible candidate might be this issue 180:

Sorry for the delay. I get home from work around 1:40 AM, so it's easy for things to slip my mind. However, turns out I was right. The image is from the July 1994 issue of ARMS Magazine, which had an article on Bullpup and SF guns. Had a short article on the original prop, as well as an article on how to make a pulse rifle AEG, basically from scratch, since this was written a decade or two before Snow Wolf produced theirs. I took a few quick pics of the relevant articles, but am having trouble posting the images. Perhaps someone can refresh my memory on how to do it. I've got them on imgur.

Cool! :D

You can post images with the following code sequence "" or a link to the image with "http://image_url".
There are two buttons "Img" and "URL" at the top of the editor window that places [img][/img] at you current cursor position. So just place the image URL between the ][ and you are done.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Stefan

PS: If you want to give those images a permanent home here, you can add them to the board with "Browse" and "Add the file".

Ideally we would avoid posting links as they always expire

Nice work! Looks like they visited BAPTY and there’s a couple of PRs in a rack painted black for ALIEN 3?

Thanks so much for posting these tacblue. I'm so happy that the question of where that image came from has finally been answered!

The Pulse Rifle featured is definitely the double-live firer, AKA 'Delta', and the guy with the beard in the blue T-shirt is the one and only Simon Atherton.

Now we need to know what the article says!

I can try and make actual scans of it if needed, and I'll see what the article actually says. I just scanned over it briefly, but I don't remember any surprising revelations.

tacblue,

this is really good reference material with lots of new stuff (at least for me).
For example: I've never seen those Alien3 Grenades before.

Thanks a lot!

Actual hi-res scans would be amazing if you’re able to do that tacblue.

Kinda cool to see a v2 gearbox and M4 style mag being used in that amazing scratch build

Have a look at the image with no. 16 in the circle: Simon is loading one of these into the grenade launcher - so I'm pretty sure those are supposed to be grenades.

Cheers,

Yep you're right.

I'm just very surprised at how basic they look, particularly with the top of a bolt at the business end!
