Getting around to pulling apart my snow wolf/matrix from Evike.com

I will post as I go as I come across interesting problems..

Sanding and layering black primer before the silver paint.
Rattle can primer, next will be automotive satin black through an airbrush.

Sanded doen the rattle can paint/primer with coarse sandpaper then hit it with a scotchbright spongue.
going to use grey primer/filler. and airbrush black car paint.

gonna do two coats of this primer/filler before black car paint.
Second coat focusing on the parts that will be weathered at the end.

Pre weathering some metal parts.

supplies:
50 dollar airbrush
car paint, black, silver, mixing green and metalic red, to make brown
automotive paint solvent for thinning paint
acetone for cleaning airbrush between colors
1500 grit sandpaper and steel wool for between coats

mixing paint to thinner 50/50 ratio

black car paint turned out nice, can still see scratches under it from sanding.
After I add one more coat of black, I will start layer in silver then polish to a shine before brown goes on.

-I didnt have red film for the counter, but i did have transparent airbrush paint. i did three coats on the inside.

-I had some thin sheet steel so i polished and cut squares to go inside of the cut-out circles. super glued them in after weathering with course sandpaper and then steel wool.

I also used a thin dremel bit and took off the sharp corners on all of the metal parts.

I have yet to find a way to make they display legible in the sunlight, yet not blaringly loud in the dark.

so far, Primer, black primer, black, Silver. next is final paint then weathering.
I also 3d printed some grenades to replace the stock shotgun shell. I printed them with silver CCTREE PLA+ Its more durable and smooth. Im also going to cover the bolt with some kind of polished metal.
Just threw away a ceiling fan extension post that would have been perfect. figures.
I want to stress this, dont pre sand so much, its been a bitch to cover the scratches, just use many light coats and allow them to cure and harden.

You can polish up the original bolt you have there with some fine sand paper and metal polish. I lacquered over the top of mine to stop it dulling.

got a picture of that Stimpy? how shiny did it turn out?

Here you go. It definitely buffs up to a finish with a little reflection present, maybe even more with more polishing. Still not looking bad seeing as this was my first snow wolf an i did this many years ago now!

I think I have some Brasso polish. What paint did you use?

Its definitely an improvement. I used an automotive clear coat lacquer

i used cheap walmart acrylics and made my own brown bess. Itll be less durable then the silver underneath so it should wear away nicely to reveal the silver. Suggestions are more then welcome and ive seen the excellent BB threads. However if i aquires a tin of BB I couldnt bring myself to open it.


the lighting from top to bottom is : outdoor, outdoor at a different angle, then fluorescent.
mixed, green, tan, grey, red
might add more grey.

Airbrushing car paint mixed 50/50 with thinner makes for layers that are too thin. So I got this chrome paint from Dollar General for 4 bucks and its perfect. doing two layers each time and then letting it cure for 72 hours before I wet sand it.

this is still ongoing, a week ago the silver paint was still not cured due to the heavy hunidity here.
Ill be going with satin spray can black and airbrushing "Alclad 2 mil-spec british brown bess" once i can find some that ships to the US. Realized this thread is redundant with all the other snow wolf builds on here but its been fun.

I’ve been trying to color match the green version that matrix makes. No luck so far. Would love a spray canned version

have you tried the flat "camo colors" from walmart?

Try looking at Olive Green shades, or Ranger Green.

Ive tried all comors from menards, home depot, walmart. No matches

Strikah, Why do you want to match that OD green?
Have you tried mixing paints?

I just love the color. Every other available color seems inferior
