I found a 100 watt led lamp for cheap and a 5v dc-dc up converter. On a 4 cell battery pack I get about an hour of run time. I am looking at testing with a bicycle light battery pack that is rechargeable. The voltage output is adjustable and that controls the brightness. FYI the lamp is the same thing seen in flood lamps now. Light levels are close to movie level brightness at full power. this is still a work in progress.

I know the feeling. Wish is the best deal on that part. DC-DC converters in small factors that are cheap are mutually exclusive terms. I have not found an alternative board through local sources. The board is such that I buy several at a time as I do get a dud here and there. I usually buy in such volumes and with all the parts research I do any information harvesting would create a self corrupting database anyways.

I did some burn in testing and the adjustable voltage is a great boon. The board gets hot if cranked to the full 26VDC output. I dial it back to a bearable light level and heat output is negligible. The heat is nothing I would really be concerned about. Housing the board in the battery is not a concern either as the airspace in there will be sufficient.

Regardless I am having to scale back my cosplay stuff so I can focus on home maintenance in the coming year to finish a couple of major yard landscaping projects and such.

The seller is probably pulling everyone's leg with that 100W rating at 12V, but it looks pretty bright. What's the maximum current rating on that DC/DC step up board?

actually it is at about 26vdc. I scale it back a bit as the thing gets hot to the touch. I think the chip actually runs on 36vdc. So it is not even at full brightness...

at 12vdc it is not very bright. I would have to do a video with the volt meter hooked up to show the brightness scaling and can do that when I get a chance.

I settled on a Lithium Polymer battery 11.2VDC and charger from Hobby Town. The DC-DC converter is inside the housing and the boost adjustment screw is accessible from the back via a mini pinhole. M3 screws were used to secure the board and I will follow up later by applying Loctite the to nuts on the board.

Weight of the battery is no more than 4 AA battery pack in all actuality and it is secured via removable zip ties.

To follow will be a live stream of the installation of the spatcave mounting kit to my golden armor set.

Aside from repainting with the recommended Tamiya paint the armor upgrades are more or less done.

I still have the Serbian pot metal helmet I need to hack, but I am waiting to order the drop down site kit so I can get everything sorted out and installed properly.

OK rc car battery will not work with the dc-dc converter. I think it has to do with the voltage wave form output and the circuit design of the power amplifier.

I went with 25r batteries. You can not buy them locally. Apparently teenagers were using them improperly in e-cig adapters and blowing themselves to disfiguration. All the locally sourced stuff by law in many locations has to have over/under charge circuitry making the size larger.

at 7.2 volts for the battery pack stepped up to 24 volts things last for a while.

The battery case I have only works with the 25r form factor batteries. The new stuff is too large to work.
