The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Got the 'green' coloured one, it's getting kind of scratched up from playing and taking it apart etc, but figure I might aswell go all the way and weather it and such - I've got a ton of rattle spray cans, WH40k paints, loads of different sandpaper grits, everything really - any quick tips on how to weather it without making it look terrible?

I was thinking of maybe sanding the edges of it a bit, and then dry-brushing some gunmetal grey on those parts or something, but I'm sure there are plenty of guys on here who have done this before and could offer some good suggestions on what to do.

Thanks in advance.

Went ahead and just took some sandpaper to it, then drybrushed some gunmetal grey onto it:

Only took about half an hour. Gonna wait for the paint to dry and use some fine grit sandpaper on it and smooth / touch it up. Looks a lot better imo.

i suggest removing the shrouds, prime them, then use chrome spraypaint, then many light coats satin clearcoat, then your final od green or brown, then just let it weather. theres also this video as a guide.

Far too much effort. Like, I have a couple of mopeds that I sanded down, sprayed with primer, and now I'm having a shop do the proper spraying for - it's a long job, I am just looking for ways to weather it as-is without a massive job. Here's a couple pics of the 'weathering' I've done so far;

You could always do what I did, weathered it through three years of kicking cocky Krytac owners butts with my Pulse Rifle.

I am not a fan pf artificially weathering airsoft guns, most of the time, people weather things that would never get wear, or weather things in a way that weathering would never show as, like bare silver aluminum on a M16/AR15 replica which isnt a natural thing.

I pretty much just dry-brushed on some Gunmetal Grey (Citadel wh40k paint) around the edges, wasn't trying to be clean just did a quick pass with it and like you say, using it will weather it further.

I recently found out about adding aluminum powder to resin casts. might cast my shoulds and Launcher that way.
This gun made quite a splash when it came on the market that I expect in 10 years there wil be a pretty standard mod list that people all tend to do. Im iffy about drilling out the holes in the grenade launcher but I may to that and then put a dark mesh metal or fabric backing in there. Also thought about having a buttstock mod #d print file with an easy pattern to follow, to get rid of that big square at the back and extend it e little bit. Just random thoughts. Got photos of where you are at so far? (if they are too large to upload just take a screenshot on your phone and then theyll be small enough)

This is what it looks like currently, I'm in the process of rebuilding the gearbox and then I can put the damn thing back together (holy crap do I hate the way the two sides of the guns 'shell' go together, lots of annoying small allen bolts and shit.

You can remove 90 percent of the roll pins on the 2 half of the shroud if you haven't already. Makes striping in the future so much easier.

It's the parts which connect the two shells together I'm having "trouble" with, you know those metal plates? they screw into these little square nuts that are inside a bit of plastic in each side - mine in most areas are totally FUBAR so I was thinking of just upping the size on those bolts , screwing one side in, gorilla glue on the nuts, unscrew, screw into other side - repeat - then when I put it back together it should be honky dory.

Got the gearbox back together but now I'm kinda 'stuck/stumped' on exactly how to put the rest of it back in the reciever part. here's the latest pics for comaprison:

Are you having trouble screwing together the gearbox or the shroud?

Glue the square nutserts in with a small amount of glue to where the fit in the magwell casing.

To put the gearbox in the lower receiver, trigger gets screwed in, motor cage gets unscrewed and comes off. Selector plate and the lever “cams” get put in place as well. Very straightforward.

I am going to probably up the screw size 1mm or so and just get it done that way - the threading on the plastics etc (plus the loss off the little square nuts) makes it much easier, especially converting them all to a phillips style screw rather than a bloody allen key bolt.
