The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Does anyone know if he had a full name and what his title/position was? This is the guy that talks with Lydecker near the beginning about getting a message from WY corporate.

According to Xenopedia he was called Al Simpson. He was the colony administrator.

I'm pretty sure lydecker gets his attention by shouting 'hey Al" at him too.

Colony Administrator...so I guess he's the main guy in charge there?

It's a bit confusing on Simpson and Lydecker's names. Their name tags read "M. SIMPSON" and "W. LYDECKER" - yet their offices read "W. SIMPSON OPS MAN B/OI" and "M. LYDECKER ASST. OPS MAN(-illegible)". Then there's the fact that Simpson responds to being called "Al".

Maybe Al is his nick-name? Or his middle name? I guess we could come up with whatever explanation we want. I was wondering about his name because of some "paper work" I'm doing. For that reason, I wonder which I should use?

Here's another question, do you think the colony on LV426 had a Sheriff or Marshall? Would that have fallen under Simpsons responsibilities? It is a (relatively) small colony after all and I'm sure some of the people had multiple responsibilities.

Some of the expanded universe material (I think it could have been the Newt's tale comics) suggested there was actually a small USCM presence but I don't really find that credible. A true military presence would have dealt with the aliens before they became numerous enough to take over the entire colony and the damage seen in Aliens appeared to come from civilian and improvised weapons. With a colony size of less than 160 I expect that Simpson would have deputised any personnel he needed if someone had to be arrested and then either acted as a magistrate himself or sent back to Earth for someone to come out and deal with any legal issues. I think that anyone to be in incarcerated for any length of time would just be put in stasis and returned to Earth on the next available flight.

Would be plausible to assume "Al" to be a middle name. For instance my Dad's given first name is William which is a Klassen family tradition. The first born son of William is always William. My grandpa went by Bill, and he worried about suddenly being called "Old Bill" so they always called my Dad by his middle name, which is Russel (He simply goes by "Russ").

Mac McDonald (actually born Terence McDonald) plays Simpson, so following the general rule (minus a couple exceptions) of each character using the actor's "first name", following the name tags they wear is likely intended. "M. Simpson" - Mac Simpson.

Bill Armstrong played "W. Lydecker" - William (Bill) Lydecker.

The office wall first initials are simply mixed up.

So, based on that... What are we going with? Albert, Alan/Allen, Alvin, Alphonse, Alistair, Alexander, Alfred... etc? :delta:

I'd guess Alan/Allen
