The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Does anyone have a good screenshot or production photo of the pulse rifles in the Sulaco armory? The ones in the rack not on the table in front of Frost.

The center bar across the PR's you can get from
McMaster Carr.

Here's a pretty good shot.

You'll notice that the bar also lifts up and is padded on the backside.

Wow! That's exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

I'm trying to prove my 'mystery rifle' is one of these in the rack.

Looking at the shoulder stocks, the PR third from the left looks promising as it appears the stock is larger than the rest.
It has a nice size paint chip just above the mag release and another on the bottom edge, just forward of the release.

Do you happen to have a shot of yours, from the same angle?

If you can prove it - it'll cause some people on here to rethink their opinions of the pedigree of the Micheal Biehn signed "rubber" stunt.

Anyway it looks more like a pulse rifle than any "replica" that's out there. And there's evidence of the overhanging barrel vent (which has been chopped off) which is common to the lightweight resin and rubber stunt casts.

According to the tech manual, in a "normal" deployment, there would be twice as many Maries. That's why there is another dropship.

The Sulaco would probably have a Crew of it's own as well, somone has to fire all of the big guns

The dent in the shroud is convincing... Were the triggers solid like that?

My gun was obviously heavily modified but the dent does seem to indicate it was cast directly off a hero.

What do you guys think those rack guns were made from? My guess would be fiberglass since resin props were very rare in the early 80’s especially in the UK. My gun is fiberglass.

This is what I know for sure:

They are made of foam covered in a yellow epoxy resin coating.

All of the 'rack gun's I have ever seen (2) have had the triggers broken off.

Castings have been made (in hollow resin) and were available in the UK (1990's). They are close but have two distinct differences. The filled in trigger area and the filled in area between the end of the barrel vent and the grenade launcher (not the entire area, just the piece where the SPAS cage is not straight.

I believe they were made by Full Moon or something like that. Harry knows.

OK, so my gun is probably a fake. I wonder what happened to all those rack guns?

I have a copy of the stunt PR myself.

Image

It's made from dense black fibreglass gel-coat type resin (as far as I can make out) and filled with a hard 'biscuit' foam. The ad was from 1991 by the way.

While I can't weigh it accurately (my scales only go up to 2kg) I've compared it to a 1kg bag of rice and I'd say it weighs about 4, maybe 4.5kg.

I would have thought the original stunt PRs would be a lot lighter than that.

Harry

Unless I counted and multiplied wrong, there are approx 70-80 rifles in the armory, still seems like a lot for maybe 30 people.

Looking at that great photo above there are 5 stunt PR's and 5 working PR's.

(Based on the aluminum showing through on the mag bases).

From the other pics it looks as if the majority of the armory was full of M-16's.

I just realized I was counting two walls of weapons, if there's only one wall of rifles, then there's probably 40-50.

I need to double-check my tech manual on this one, but as I recall... while the the Conestoga class is indeed designed with a human crew in mind, most of the ship's systems are automated and can be run with a skeleton crew, or even no crew at all for simple missions.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong. It's been a while since I read that section and I can't get to the book right this moment ^_^
