The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm hoping this thread will be the "sister" to the wonderful Prop Identification thread found here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15162

The only difference is this thread is dedicated to SET DRESSING items.

I've already identified (with help!) a lot of items in MedLab as well as Operations, and I hope to share those soon. But for now, I'm calling on other hawk eyed fans to help with some of the items I've been struggling with. I promise this thread will turn into a resource, but for now, I need help so it's more of a request :delta:

Here's a couple things I can show however:

Identified:

Xerox Alto mainframe cabinets

These are in Operations on the raised area under a desk

The Apricot/Apricot Xi were used EVERYWHERE

More to come...

Unidentified:

Stasis Tube Stand

Calling back to recent posts in the NECA thread, regarding the "stand" that the stasis tubes are on, I think that is a worthy item to kick off this thread.

Attachment:

Top Left is from overhead in the APC hanging "upside down", the other three are "right side up" under stasis tubes in the Stasis Room and MedLab

My Mom (is awesome) thinks that the two circular "holes" on the inside laying flat could be pressure gauges. We can see it has valve style knobs on two of the sides. The curly cable could be to some remote or power source. There is also a straight cable too. Thoughts?

More to come...

The keyboard looks something like an old Commodore keyboard with the keys replaced with plastic sheet.

That is an interesting possibility. It does look backlit in the shot with Lydecker, unless that ia just a printed graphic?

I think I've found "middle ground" between backlit/printed keyboard!

Several test equipment units were used in throughout the film, and some designs of these were recreated for use on the main Ops console as well to appear backlit. I'm positive I've ID'd the keys, but the body is still a mystery. It is similar to the Commodore 64 but it appears thinner than the Commodore 64.

I've nearly finished identifying all of the test equipment units used throughout the film, I just have to compile them all according to where they appear.

As for the stasis tube base - to me it looks somewhat like (the internals of) an old stereoscopic slide viewer/projector.
The part with the rounded edge would then contain the light source, the two 45 degree planes would be mirrors and the two round openings are the projector outputs.

Could be from something like this:

or this:

or something completely differend ... ;o)

Stefan

In some of the Med Lab scenes you can see something hanging down from the ceiling that looks like a "scope" of some sort. Harry identified this as being a Shockwave Transformer toy. Sorry I don't have a screen-cap to back this up, but here's an image from the net...

Nice! I didn't know that :) Thanks!

But I did locate it after reading this, in the Medlab Operation Theater, hanging above the AutoDoc

Anyone know what to search for when looking for the corridor metal beam connectors?

Are they L brackets?

So I took a break for a few months and recently decided to jump back in :delta:

I was surprised to make a new discovery (new to me, anyway!) in the APC today. Awhile ago I decided to go through the film areas and compile where I have spotted the Kango 426 toolbox. Until today, I had believed that the 5 found on the roof of the APC were black. They are in fact painted the very lovely 170 Brown Bess. Today I noticed there were black details on the lids. I flipped through my images taken in different areas in the colony and found some of the details were re-used elsewhere throughout each set! Note the "Rough Layout Approximation" is not complete as I can't make out what I'm seeing. Details aren't fleshed out either, but enough to get a good idea.

Also, an old find in the APC that I haven't pinpointed yet, but thought I'd share for board input. Awhile back I noticed this shot when brightened vividly shows coloured buttons on this unit which appears to be a radio. I remember at the time I did a blanket Google image search for radios and found one with the same coloured buttons, but different layout. Likely the same brand... Now, to find it again!

And I shared this in retrogarde's Medlab Operation Theatre thread but thought it fits here too. I wonder what this door switch is? I think it has a red 2 digit display on it. I wondered if maybe it's a digital thermostat?

Did digital thermostats exist in the 80's?

I haven't been ignoring this! This is actually the best suggestion so far in my opinion. I can see your points. I honestly don't know the first place to look further into this... I would imagine there aren't many images floating around of slide projectors opened up. Needle in a haystack, I guess! But if anyone has any suggestions on where to look, let's hear it! In the meantime I've posted on an amateur photography forum in the UK for assistance.

Not entirely sure to be honest. It appears to have a large non-backlit digital display on the top section too. (like a calculator screen)

Also I found the image of the unit with the same coloured buttons! I was smart enough to save it when I found it the first time. It's a Solartron Schlumberger "Minilock" unit. Solartron Schlumberger units were used all over the place in the film. Mostly related to lab test equipment and voltmeters, etc... so it's highly possible the "radios" on the roof of the APC are the same brand.

I know my father talked about wiring up computer networks with thermostat wire in the 80s...

I don't think the miniaturization existed to a point back then to support digital ones

Personally I would say it is actually a military radio of some type, the corners of the box have the raised areas used to lock it into a vehicle, the 2 round fittings on the right look like mic fittings, and the large white fitting on the left is an antenna fitting with a cover on it..................... it also looks like its upside down

Makes sense to me. You would know with your interest in militaria. Can you think of any radio manufacturers which may have used white, black, yellow, red, blue and green buttons?

EDIT: Thanks to Space Jockey and M1861, we know this is a control panel from a Hotpoint 93730 tumble dryer

---------------------------------------------------------------

We need help identifying this "deck" seen in the corridors behind the caution railing and in Ops on the west wall next to the data table.

Attachment:
Unknown Deck - Corridors - Ops.jpg
Unknown Deck - Corridors - Ops.jpg [ 981.58 KiB | Viewed 9567 times ]

We believe it's grey in its natural state under normal lighting as it appears in the crudely spliced Ops photo. It has what appears to be a large red rectangular digital numerical LCD display next to a circular "lens" on the right side. The "lens" appears to be reflective under light and set into the moulding. In the corridors, the deck is painted brick red (as is everything else on the walls)

We suspect it could be a slide projector but haven't had luck finding one that matches.

Additionally the yellow highlighted piece in the corridor looks to me like upside down drainage channel... Thoughts? We're searching Polypipe's products but no luck yet. (TERRAIN by Polypipe are what the piping comes from)

More items to come...

I want to say that the panels in red are the top of a washer or dishwasher that slides over the chassis, with the circle on the right being where the dial would be to select the setting...what appliance though I do not know.
