I will work on getting extended hours at the holiday inn bar. I will also advise that parking in downtown knoxville sucks on the weekends. But on the weekends and after business hours on friday parking almost everywhere is free. There is a big open lot next to the international but I am not sure if that is open to the general public or events.
Update:
I have spoken to Heather at sales at the Holiday Inn in Knoxville and am awaiting for a callback. I have also asked what additional cost if any will be needed for the extended hours. Per her the par typically closes at 11pm and all the area bars typically close at 3am with a last call for drinks at 130am. She did seem to indicate that extending it to midnight might not be that big of a deal, just extending it later would be.
I have also indicated that my bigger concern is for the hotel and the hotel staff over all as safety is my number one concern regarding these things. Police have volunteered for the event security and locally the all put in requests weeks and months in advance and fight for slots to do security duty.
Tennessee is a bit of a unique creature regarding alcohol: we never truely repealed all the laws related to prohibition/temperence movement. Licensing more than anything will dictate how late they can stay open so if we can't get extended hours at the holiday inn, we may have to look at another nearby venue.
I had advised that it looks like official count is about 10 folks and unofficially potentially 20 with the aliens legacy crew (gut feeling) and that the other members of the fan boy may be in and out.
I was also asked if we wanted any paticular food provided, but that would up the costs. Worst case a simple platter or three from a nearby walmart would suffice and I can get advanced OKs with that I would think.
I never give up so if this falls through I always have a backup plan and a backup plan for my backup plan.
