The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well, it's finally happened. I acquired my very own set of armor thanks to the help of :delta: jayw1235 :delta: for the helmet with Pentax camera lens and LED IR sight included, The combined efforts of :delta: Mantroon :delta: and :delta: gman666 :delta: for the set of MAA Armor, and additionally :delta: spatcave :delta: for any and all advice and materials he had to offer. Thanks to the four of you, I shall finally represent the California 31st Monarchs at this saturdays wondercon in Anaheim. Til then I'll post a few pics of some modifications I conducted to get myself prepared...

This is the spatcave Helmet I purchased via Jay. I love Spatcave's movie camo so it set the bar for what would come next....

MY SPATCAVE SHOULDER LAMP

So these were the bulbs I finally managed to find at a home depot. Spat says he plans on upgrading to LED's in the future as these bulbs seem to be going out of circulation.

Here's the shoulder lamp I acquired via Spatcave. The innitual bulb burned out and I found that replacements are surprisingly hard to find when you're pressed on time and aren't up for ordering via the net...

MY VERY FIRST FITTING

Here's my first fitting upon assembling it. Luckily Greg straightened me out on how to connect the shoulder armor to the back properly.

Now for the modifications. As you can see, there's a bit of camo mismatch going on here and as I've mentioned earlier, I love Spatcave's movie camo as seen on the helmet. The first thing I could see was the tan brown and squiggly (what I long thought were white ) stripes were drastically different from that of the helmet's, so I went about correcting this. Innitually the squiggles were some type of seafoam light blueish green so I changed them to white. Both corrections I made were innitually wrong. First I tried using tan color but it came out too much of a fleshy pink tone. Then I tried brown and that was horribly wrong. I also needed something to dull the colors once i DID get them correct. The shop owner down the street from my work was no help. He had no interest in the products he sold. He was admittedly a hobby shop clerk who wasn't a hobbiest. He didn't carry Spat's suggested MIG brand of powdered black smoke, so for dulling the paint, he pointed me to an acrylic brand called vallejo smoke colored paint and suggested mixing it with thinner. Their smoke turned out to be a brown tone. :/ . I only changed the tan brown on the torso armor at first. In one of the photos so you can probably see the three variations in camo colors.

I pulled an all nighter repainting it all to try to match the helmet. I tried using an equivalency chart to compensate for the lack of humbro brand paints being sold anywhere in my area, and the further issue of hobby shops dissappearing. I didn't have the time to place orders via the net, so I went to my neighborhood Michaels arts and crafts store and stuck with the testors brand. The grey squiggles were the combo of one and a half bottle of flat white mixed with one bottle of flat grey. The tan is the combo of sand beige mixed with flat brown. I tried dulling down the crotch plate with charcoal but that doesn't seem to be working, so I ended up applying black Craft smart acrylic paint, and lightly smeared it all over the armor. I think I finally achieved a VERY close match up to helmet colors. The photo immediately below was from before I applied the black acrylic wash.

I forgot to show a close up of what I did with the helmet. As my callsign is Deadfly, I chose this spider wrapping me in webbing as my armor's decor. It also serves as a tribute to the fact that the very first element to attract me to Alien was the eight digit facehugger which, from my child eyes at the time, resembled a spider or crab, which I was also interested in collecting as a child.

I went on my second drop this past weekend at Monsterpalooza in Pasadena. I encountered a strange new breed of Xeno, and a comrade who was escorting a predator. I encountered more Xenos on day 2.
