The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm trying to finish my load-out this year, so I figured I'd start a thread. I've slowwwwwly been working on a plug-fire m41a. Got some fitted Al shrouds from Big Stew in the mail today, which jumped this project back up on the priority list!

Image

Things it needs:
- File of front sight & fit a barrel extensions
- New paint coat of Brown Bess
- Fix safety selector switch on the Hudson M1A1 (they break so easily, and I got a little too rowdy with mine... :P )
- Finish & mount GL
- Sort out how to make the counter functional

Dang that's a lot of work!

Thanks Neil! It's been slow going. I've been kind of swinging back and forth between this project, some Blade Runner stuff, and some Star Wars stuff (such is life).

I actually had my vent & stock parkerized to match the SPAS cage.

This was the scariest part so far:

Using a PPS 870 in there...

I'll have to reparkerize the cage : /

Mostly done! Still have to make it rackable (ca-chackkk!) and get that relief cut for ejecting shells.

Oh wow, cool. So that just floats freely in the slot, and keys onto the racking ring (or whatever it's called) while being screwed into the pump grip? That would make it so much easier to disassemble for servicing and cleaning!

That's right mate it's a verry easy way of solving that problem and it realy does work great, and like you mentioned if anything does happen it's easy to change.

Well I went to the local hardware store to get some metal to make one of those retraction bars, but they didn't have any 1/4 inch in stock : / So I ordered some, and instead took the trigger guard off the 870. I also picked up an aluminum bolt upgrade for the PPS a while ago and finally got around to installing it. Much better!

Image

I'm not that keen on how this is looking. I know the ones in the movie that had working 870s had a those little fins that popped down, too, because that's where the trigger spring is, but I'd love to figure something out that feels more intentional.

I think you have 2 'screen accurate' choices there:

1-Try backing the GL up a bit. Looks to me like it is too far forward. The trigger assembly could be more on top of the front pillar on the mag base. I did this on mine not only to hold in the spring that I cut ( ) but also because that position matched the spacing on the gap above the GL and under the shroud better (right before the GL rises to contact the vent) compared to the production photo 8-hole. Smoothing out the look and matching up the gap was killing too birds with one stone for me.

2- Go hard core 'ugly' screen accuracy to hide it. The actual prop with the working trigger had an oversized ugly front mag plate that was bent at the top to wrap around that trigger assembly streamlining things a bit. Virtually everyone skips this detail but it was most definitely there on the functional GL/10-hole.

Good luck and looking great so far!

I'd say a combo of Bigbisont's suggestions might be in order.

Whoa, how have I never noticed that bulge before!

I think I might try to take it down more and push it back. Go for a more idealized look...

NIce looking mods. I never did get my eject port on my Spas to allow free ejection of shot shells. May have to review
that project. :)

I never really planned on putting one of these together, but I had the parts...

Image

So then I had to get these.

Image

Is there a complete part list for what you need from these for the Smartgunner headset vs. the Dropship hemet? I only really know of the trapezoidal-ish panels from the Axoid on the chinrest area of the SG unit...

Saving reference photos as fast as I can!
I was thinking, having a very weathered shroud while letting the rest age naturally and subtly could be a really good look.

Been playing around with making accurate front blocks out of aluminum the past few weeks. I think I'm getting close.
