The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Got a question for my more weapons-knowledgeable fellow board members....

It's been established that ARMAT made the M41a Pulse Rifle.
But who made the M56 Smart Gun? Has there ever been more information out there than what is written in the Aliens: Colonial Marine Tech Manual?

Thanks!

Al Gore, after the internet, it was the obvious thing for him to make.

Yay, a sensible answer LOL!

Bapty made it for the film, but my question is referring to any supposed 'fictional' manufacturer of the smart gun, like how Armat was dreamed up for the Pulse Rifle, which was also made for the movie by Bapty. I didn't know if in the Aliens universe there was a name decided upon for the M56 manufacturer.

In A:CM WY forces also had a M56 type smart gun made by WY.
But that could be on license from the actual manufacture of cause.

if there is no official in universe manufacturer, why not make it Cam-Arm (Cameron-Armament /Camera Arm) as a nod to both James Cameron and the rig used for the film

Screw Cameron. He's only got Avatar on his mind. He's too "high class" now for Aliens or Terminators.

I dig it.

Anybody but Weyland-Yutani, please!

Ha, definitely not Weyland Yutani....they have their fingers in enough pies as it is. I like Cam-Arm, but it sounds similar to Pan-Am, and I wonder if the Smart Gun can be used without the arm, i.e. mounted on a vehicle or something. Could probably still be used with the headset for weapon target assignment capability.
Okay, cool. I'll look at some weapon manufacturers out their and see if I can come up with something in the same vein. Cheers!

Yes, like the WY Brute do.
The USCM version requires the famous battery and the connection to the chest/SG headset,
but for that you might have a 2nd solution or just do it without the arm.

The targeting system should be optional IMHO.
Mounting on a vehicle should be possible.

Really good idea Kris!
(I'm an ol'skool Avengers fan too, so double-good [Mmmm 60's Emma Peel!]).

Steed Armaments or Steedman Armaments both sound good to me.

In the recent USCM-centric comic series Predator Life and Death had a SmartGun mounted on a one-man hovercraft.

Another idea would be to combine Goldstien and Rolston in some manner as they were the ones lugging the gun around.

Okay, so the options are (and I need to get this nailed down by tomorrow for a project I'm working on...), noting it up as:-

G&R ARMAMENT (Goldstein, Rolston tribute)
STEED FIREARMS MFG (Steedman tribute)

I think retrograde is right.....seems like this should be a Goldstein, Rolston name. But - definitely want to use a tribute to Trevor too....so:-

G&R ARMAMENT M56 SMART GUN
STEED FIREARMS MFG M240 INCINERATOR UNIT

Whadoya think...?

Fine with me.
Any suggestions for the data plates?

Excellent, we'll run with it. I'd written the Manufacturing abbreviation 'MFG' but it didn't click that 'STEED MANUFACTURING' shows his full last name. Great suggestion.
I have to get the Smart Gun manufacturer logo done first but will certainly go the Steed Manufacturing route when I come to that for the M240.
What are the data plates, are these the ARMAT plates people put on their PR's?

First...great thread. Second...I got excited and couldn't help myself...

The first two designs are just straightforward corporate logos with a kind of fire-ish 'S' for a military/flamethrower company.

The last one was based on the family surname 'Steedman', for one who 'raises horses' or 'tends to war horses'. It might work as a patch some day, but now that I finished it I think it might be over the top in any other applications.
