The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Got a big ass gun and a can-do attitude

Hello, i am planning on starting an M240 build in a few weeks and i'm short of a couple of critical dimensions. Can anyone help me with this. I need the diameter's of the body of the fuel reservoir, the centre section and the two bands. Also the neck diameter of the fuel reservoir (were the screw threads would be to mate the reservoir to the flame unit) and/or the width of the flamer were the two join. I've got an M16 iron sight so i've got a good base ref for the uppers but the body flares out below this and i can't seem to get a good picture to work out the angles i need to give me the width of the unit at the point the res and flamer meet. It seems to bulk out quite quickly tho.
Any other dimensions for the M240 anyone wants to post would also be appreciated, as this will allow me to check my sizes before i start getting messy especially those pesky widths (most of the photo's i have are side on). Any sage advice or helpful hints from any of the build vets out their, who are in the process of or have completed theirs would also go down a treat. Here's to hoping this build will be easier than my smart gun! :D

Cheers

Does anyone out there know where I can lay my hands on an M204 guard. I've looked in my usual places (ebay and erm ebay ) but had no luck so far.
Cheers

Go to a few militaria shows, the season has already restarted, however, If you can't find one, G&P do a separate one to fit to airsoft M16's

Nice! I bought a surplus one off a member here and felt kind of bad about "wrecking" a vintage item. But that piece is going to help you get the overall dimensions correct, so it really is essential.

Hey retrogarde do you know if the nozzle is still available and could you tell me the thickness of the pistol grip?

It's coming together a little slower than my smart gun did (work commitments) but i've managed to source all the bits now i think, just need a little time off to start the build.

My concern is how fragile woukd a build be, could it deal with reasonable rough handling

Oh she'll be solid. Gonna run a mild steel bar through the centre to screw the fitting on one end and hold the barrel square the other. The chassis is going to be marine ply and all the add on's will be screwed and glued. The smart gun was fully welded but not got that option this time.

I'm not going to do get into the full build thing as retrogarde has already done an amazing one of those. So i'll just put up some pics now and then when i hit the milestones!! Well as you can see the M16 sections are now cut just need to get back to the UK so i can make a start on the chassis. The more i look at the photo's the more i think i have the right connection for the back end, if not they look really close to me. Does anybody know what the movie one's were?

Ok folks, the back end is coming on nicely! The thread bar is there to strengthen the back end. The handle is the next on the hitist and is drying in the workmate at the moment :D

I love seeing these 240 builds recently. Any intention of having the pilot (for lack of a better term) flare functional? Would be pretayyyyyyyyy sweet ;)

Just had a few unexpected day's off work, so i had a little time to play. The screws on the sections above the pistol grips are not yet countersunk but they will sit flush compared with their current positions, i just got carried away with other more interesting bits! so i'll have to address it when i get back. Apologies for the orientation of the first picture and their kinda in the wrong order but i'm much more of a hands on tools kinda person, the girlfriend usually handles the computer stuff!! :D

Last day of fun before work steps in again, the carry handle is now in and secured and the nozzles have been started just letting those dry. The thread bar coming from the bottom is just a scrap piece of bar to hold the securing nut in place whilst the epoxy drys around it, the fuel tank will have a central threadbar running its entire height not just to secure it into the securing nut but also clamp the whole assembly together, making it super strong oh and give it some more weight! There's a couple of things i've decided to change ( hindsights a wonderfull thing) when i get back, i have to countersink those pesky securing screws, and there's a serious amount of sanding throughout. The fuel tank bodies have just arrived but all of these jobs will have to wait a couple of weeks. Plus side it'll give the epoxy time to harden, down side i'll have more time to think about the changes i'm going to make and start getting creative, never a good idea!! :D
P.S I know its upside down please see previous post!
