The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

In the third image down (Hudson following Vasquez into the hive) is Hudson wearing a padded VP70 holster? It is in the shadows, but it sure looks like one hanging off his belt with a pair of straps or paracord loops. Am I seeing things?

Quite a few Marines carried the VP-70.

Damn I think you're right. It MIGHT be a shot taken early on in filming as I'm pretty sure hudson did have a VP-70 in continuity photos and might have got rid of it once the re-shoots after Remar left.

Not Hudson though.

Only 3 of the 'ground pounders' did, and not Hudson. That is why the image is a head scratcher!
(*EDIT* - as Nick beat me too it.)

It looks to be their instead of his hack pouch. Wild and mysterious... guess its time to watch the hive scene again!

Well, the Hive scene was the very first thing filmed.

Perhaps that costume was assembled before they decided he would be the 'tech'.

Costume check on the 'hive' set with a clearer shot of the VP on his right hip.

Then of course the rest of the entire movie had either the hack pouch or empty space

Fun little tidbit.

What's that thing coming off his left lower bracket...looks like some paracord?

And his welder has some gaffers tape around the bottom of the handle?

Yeh looks like a zip-tie to me too. Probably to hold the cable for the lamp (it's tucked under the sling)

Looks to me like its going to his welder.
Think you can see a little bit of it where it comes out, from under the back plate, to the welder.

I was going to say ziptie too as it looks like it is sticking out funny, but Punkmarine has eagle eyes: that's a line of paracord running to the welder! An attempt to reduce "welder flop" maybe?

And yet the photo posted above proves otherwise.

Cropped and adjusted pic, def. looks to be helping hold the welder to his hip:

I wouldn't go that far. If a tree falls in the woods, but its fall was cut after re-shooting the scene, did it make a sound on screen?
In all seriousness it's a fun tidbit.

It's what I love about this forum... We just keep finding extra titbits...

Love the Hudson VP70 thing...

There's a VP70 'going spare' at some stage when they barricade themselves into Operations. It could be Gorman's... But unlikely as he uses it later? It's the Veep that Vasquez passes to Bishop as he is about to set off crawling up the service tunnel... And Bishop promptly hands back to Ripley...

Continuity issues... But goodness knows why... I had always initially assumed that Incinerator armed marines were backed up with a sidearm... But Crowe and Ski throw that out of the window...

For my own kit, I'm going for PR armed, Veep backup and grenades on both straps with the explorer night raider...
