The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Has anyone ever worked out a Manual of Arms for the M41? I have been messing around with mine tonight, and some of the traditional (US Army) positions don't work very well because of the M41's length (or lack thereof), balance and bulk.

Here's the US Army manual on the subject:

I was thinking that the Order Arms for the M4 Carbine might work for the M41, but all of the recent vets I have talked to say they've never seen it used. When I was in, we had the M16, which was long enough to do Order Arms with no trouble :)

Too short. Keep it at the shoulder arms by holding the pistol grip.

You know you "could" just use an M-16--- they were on the Sulaco too.

Hunting out the Manual of Arms for an SA80 or A Steyr AUG [some form of bullpup rifle that's currently in service] might work quite well.

Good call on the SA80 rifle drill. You can likely find a copy online easy enough, in things like teh Soldiers Pocketbook and so on.

AP-818 chapter 5 has Arms Drill. - Copy here: https://learning.bader.mod.uk/Global/AP ... 0-%20u.pdf

TBH, most of the top end drill display squads seem to continue using old rifles during displays, even though they'd be issued with a modern weapon for actual combat.

I especially love the WW2 Manual of Arms for the mortar squad. It pretty much comprises just picking the mortar up and putting it down when told! :D
