The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello folks,

Happy Easter to all for the weekend and mind those eggs!!!

I'm currently playing around with an idea for a straight up war campaign story involving the Sulaco years before she was deployed to LV-426. It is just an idea for the moment and may not go away but I won’t know until I do the research and flesh it out.

The first thing is to try and lock down a correct timeline and identify a conflict that the Sulaco and her marines may have participated in. It would need to be a few years (5-8) before Aliens to justify why the crew didn’t mention it.

There is a reference to Linna 349 and the “Bug-Boys” in the A: CMTM, but it is nothing overly descriptive. Given that the Tientsin campaign was around 2165 and the Sulaco was constructed in 2169, I take the events on Linna as being a separate insurgency / revolutionary event.

Just interested to see if other fans would understand this reasoning or if there is subject matter that already covers this campaign. I don’t want to tread on anyone’s toes if there is already a story based around this idea and conversely I don’t want to try to get an outline together if it isn't cohesive with the universe.

Sorry for the long post

Thanks for any input or advice in advance.

Regards,
Darrah

In the novelisation of Aliens is this paragraph, its just after they come out of hypersleep and infers that the marines had just returned from a previous operation before being sent out on the LV426 op, considering their patches have the sulaco named on them, they are part of the ships contingent, so the Sulaco must have been on that op too, probably just resupplied before being sent out again.

"Spunkmeyer was up near the head of the line and still complaining. ‘I need some slack, man. How come they send us straight back out like this? It ain’t fair. We got some slack comin’, man.’ Hicks murmured softly. ‘You just got three weeks. You want to spend your whole life on slack time?’ ‘I mean breathing, not this frozen stuff. Three weeks in the freezer ain’t real off-time."

Hi Gunny,

Thanks for the information and feedback. I’d agree that would certainly appear to be the implication.

I read the novelisation some time ago and completely forgot about that exchange. A great observation so thanks for the help!

Regards,
Darrah

Hi again all,
I was wondering if someone had the answer to question that I simply can’t resolve.
The Sulaco marines are part of 2nd Battalion, 9th Regiment. However there is no further clarity on whether they fit into a platoon or are some form of special tactical unit that I can locate. I can only see that they are generally referred to as Bravo. While the A: CMTM suggests a platoon structure with both Alpha and Bravo sections (which can then sub-divide into squads akin to fireteams), I can’t find any definitive confirmation that this applies to the Sulaco marines.
Does anyone have anything resource or reference material that confirms the correct long-form title of the unit?
Regards,
Darrah
