The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Good morning,

Pleasure to meet you all and thankyou for accepting me to the forums.

Been working on a Weyland-Yutani Primary Operations Complex Security Guard Uniform and have used what i would call a *Phase 1 Beta* at a convention in london about 8 months ago.

Will post some shots, would like to know what you think of it so far.
Was thinking of doing some more editing to it, to make it more... Realistic i guess and more Sci-fi than its standard industrial look so far.

I followed the costume design straight from memory from the AVP2 Game back in 2001. I think I have managed to nab the detail quite well, but am wondering what you guys think out loud for potential future improvements to make this look more better than it already is.

*First prototype using a standard plastic helmet with painball glasses, would love to find a helmet with a Glass visor to actually replicate the ones from the game.*

Image

*Used a raven recon vest normally used in air soft for the Makeshift dark Armour they wear in the game.*

Image

*Company patches are located on both sleeves, this isn't represented in the game however they looked very naked without them.*

Image

*Patch placement on the back, again not true to the model but it made the image of it being a company unit more identifiable.*

Image

Image

*Excuse my face in the last photo :D it just shows the vest off quite well.*

Image

Was thinking of having gear placed in the vest pockets, a more realistic approach to finding a matching helmet for this suit and trying to add more to it so it doesn't look so plain in some areas.

Would love to know what you think.

Kind regards.

Elliott.

Hey Elliot, looking great! There's another thread on here about the commandos in Alien3 that might have some good info for what else you could add. Overall I think it's looking very cool.

TBH, it just looks like a recent-timey Earth police SWAT guy with WY patches slapped on, holding a grey Pulse Rifle. Nothing sci-fi about it to me. But then again, I am not familiar with the source material. Got any pics from the game character?
As long as you like it, have a go at it! :)

I did an AvP2 figure (convict security version) in this thread and it includes reference images.
viewtopic.php?f=28&t=12859&hilit=avp2

The WY employee uniform is the same only blue instead of orange jumpsuits.

Personally I love the idea. I think your right about needing to ''sci-fi" it up a bit and add beyond the source material but it's an underrated concept and a great start!

Ah! That clears it up. Never seen or heard of that one before, I'm not big into video games. Me, I am partial to the USC Marines. :delta:

*Much appreciated for you're kind comments sir, and I have been reading the previous threads extensively, I was just wondering if there is a way to possible make the helmet by shaping it out of aluminium?*

Sorry for the mass of quotes in my reply, just thought it would be better to reply to all of you.

I have just remembered some of the POC Guards were issued with Shoulder Lamps similar to USCM Infantry, anyone got any directions into finding something like this?

Also with regards to the helmet with the Glass visors This seems like it needs to be a must.

Regards.

Elliott

Our own Chef makes a snazzy shoulder lamp kit, just ask him, he'll sort you out I'm sure.

What about a helmet like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Premier-Crown-R ... 1524174061

I'm sure most kinds of classic real world riot helmets will do the trick for an "inspired-by-a-game-character" costume like you have, even if you just get a spare visor for one such model.

If you wanna go cheap and dirty, hit a welding supply store or general "safety supply" store. They have face shields and face shield holders that would run you like $15 for the combo (sheild and "hard hat brim adapter") tops.

Ive never done it myself, but if it was me trying to adapt that helmet, these are the parts I would use. Get the "hard hat brim" adaptor and cut the faceshield to the desired size.

Good to see more costumes for the Alien Universe.
A spare PR mag, a M40 Grenade or other types of WY patches might help to increase the "ScFi look".

I think grenades and spare clips are very cool options. The problem with trying to "sci fi" it up is that the world of Alien just isn't that sci fi. Look at the folks in Hadley's Hope (in the Director's Cut). Shirts and trousers and rain slickers. The same goes for the staff of Fiorina 161 and the crew of the Nostromo (although they at least had awesome space suits).

My point is that your current costume actually looks quite accurate, especially for 2179.

I understand this and see it, the slight industrial / Military look is accurate to the guards look.

I guess im just going to be focussing on extra's to make him look more equipped i guess, im drawing up some sketches at the moment of my plans for the helmet and potential use of a shoulder lamp and some other small additions that will scream "COMPANY" all over any room i walk in aha :)

Regards.

Elliott.

You know something I have been meaning to upgrade my 1/6th figure with is to add the "throat guard/high collar" like they had in the game.

Specifically, I have beeen wanting to give him the "revenger (A punisher figure)" vest as I think it's more accurate with that high collar.

(of course the skull would be blacked out, but honestly for the $50 they seem to command these days I probably never will get around to it).

If you could incorporate that throat guard into it somehow, it would add to the look of semi-future, very menacing, and anything that covers your face certainly looks more "company" as your less an individual and more a means to an end.

Yeah looking back at the very few screenshots available for them the vest is higher, thanks for pointing that one out! I'll have to re-apply those damn patches now aha.

Regards.
