The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Has anybody ever received crap from D*C security about not deactivating our Airsoft PRs? Another costuming group I belong to actually read the D*C policy and are gutting their guns. I assume they are seriously over reacting, but I wanted to check.

Any issues?

No issues...DC is pretty cool as long as your not stupid. All they ask is that they can put a zip tie on it....but you can cut it off. I personally have never had ANY issue. I havent even had a zip tie put on my guns or blades.

Last year security was going around and if you had a gun they would zip-tie the trigger in the pulled position. That's the worse I've personally seen, though I've heard a few talk about hotel security asking people to take their guns back to their rooms.

Be responsible and don't worry about anything... I've seen stuff at DCon that would make security at Canadian cons turn white.

They zip tied my baby PR last year that was in Petes pocket and out of sight.
Personally I just think the girl wanted to rummage around in petes pockets ;)

I was there when they zipped the baby PR.

I had my airsoft PR. I kept my 9V to power the counter and left the battery pack at home. I also zipped my own trigger as the con people are sloppy and don't trim off the leftover.

As in all things when Organizations of any kind become involved, it's more about showing the world you're taking "preventative measures" than about doing anything that actually makes any difference whatsoever.

Gotta agree there- I think it also identifies the weapon as having gone through the security process so you're not getting stopped every minute. Also meaning the weapon has passed the security inspection and is considered inert etc.

I had my Phased Plasma Gun zip tied at Polaris this year- it's just an ABS tube and plumbing parts with some LEDs! Image

Fortunately they were nice enough to use a black zip tie, and made the ring relatively small.

My dart gun VP70 had to be zip tied as well (wouldn't want an innocent by-stander getting hit with a stray suction cup now would we? Image)- I was told because it has "moving parts": IE the slide and trigger, it had to go through security.

Last year at DC Dave had his Airsoft PR trigger zip tied. I, on the other hand did not have my airsoft PR zipped, and NOBODY said a thing all weekend to me about it. But then I wasn't running around shooting people either. :)

At MarsCon in Minnesota this spring I had my P90 Zip tied, but late I USCMed up and didn't do my rifle (I had it on display in the prop room all day).

I will be bringing my own mini black zip ties just in case. The D*C security has gotten ridiculous in the past couple of years.

Anyone remember "stay out of the circle!" from a few years ago?

In the Hyatt? That happens every year I think- usually when the Fire Marshal shows up and threatens to close down the convention.

Last year they (temporarily) banned photography in the Hyatt because of this.

Well there is this patio level of the Hyatt (where the bar is located) and is the usual gathering place for costumers to hang out and get there picture taken.

The floor has a set of escalators with a bit of a bottle neck for those coming up the escalator to the patio level. If people don't keep moving, there can be a pile-up of bodies coming off the escalator with nowhere to go.

So we are told to keep moving and stand back of the main floor area in order to comply with the fire regulations.

This isn't easy to do considering the unofficial record of attendance is 40 000 guests per day.

When the floor gets too crowded- the hotel staff gets very nervous, very fast, and security (accompanied by the police) ends up sending us all to other (lower) floors.

BTW, they are banning photos Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night again on the Hyatt Bar Level. Just got my booklet and it has a list of changes.

Supposedly one of the floors in the Marriott has been turned into an open air club. Be interesting to see how many flock there instead of the Hyatt.

They want to move the party from the Hyatt, fine. My ammo bag will be filled with caseless silver bullets (Rocky Mountain Panther Piss aka Coors Light) so my party follows me wherever I go.

I'm not picky. I'll drink anywhere.

Can't argue with that  The USCM load out is great for hauling copious amounts of liquor. Anywhere, anytime!
