The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

In the stage 1:1 model is nothing in the end of the hoses(?).
there is exist one sketch of fuel guns and operational arms in never realised movie scene

I ´ve merged the stage dropship instalation model and sketch above and become this..

88reaper88 - Maybe in next level.

At first I want to know how and where are various things attached to the hull of the dropship...where are entrance points of holders, fuel, external electricity and so on...like in the case of planes :D ...i can decode most of those things from external instalations surrounding the dropship. 8) ..that´s why M drawing the Sulaco Bay

If it's designed like a real aircraft then all those point with be small hatches/flaps with stencilled markings on. As far as I'm aware the movie one only had warnings for the armaments and the odd "no step" and "moving surface" type stencils.
*I could be wrong on that though.

I'd say you can make your own up going off where the tubes etc are on the 1:1 bay pictures.

Also those arms with the tubes on may be for a different vehicle all together.

88reaper88 you are right. Most of the markings are small moving plates/hatches.. few of then you can see opened in few shots in the movie.
the other decals are warning signs..just like you wrote..warnings, dangers, elevations, jet blasts, engine intakes and my alltime favourite No steps

its a pity that the fueling of the dropship has not been completed.

Abou the Sulaco bay and it´s equipment. I think that this bay was specificly done for Dropships only (Cheyenne utility UD-4*** production row).
...most of the hardware has not moveable (optional) parts..I mean that this whole place was build bespoke. USS SULACO has different types of hangars,
but not that sofisticated as the dropship bay with its pressure chamber mechanism)

.... in this case (and othe cases)I´m filling the unknown with my fan fiction

(for what is this hardware made?...is the typical question  )

Ilike to think about the hardware in the set (sulaco bay, colony ect...)and make some good explanation for what is this for?
all that rocket holders, cranes, chains....
If this is satisfactorily explained for me , then my deviation is satiated
_______________________________________________
The same process I´ve applied to fueling and Pods of the dropship

look at this hi res pic: :delta:

http://www.sulaco.cz/dropship-fuel-schematics.jpg

LEGEND:

ad A) this is decals layout from the movie...grabbed from dropship models and movie 1:1 instalation....there is JP12 mark few times.

-and here comes my fan fiction -

which i suppose is Military Jet Fuel.
JP12 is folower of known row of jet fuels today..which ends with JP10.....it is nice coincidence..or FX crew or James Cameron knew something? 8)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_fuel

ad B) This is my addon to decals family with my own brand decals for Fuel input hatches and for mechanism
which is holding the rocket pod attached to the moveable arm.

ad C) Here is explained everything about pods

ad D) Here is a pic of the fuel tanks layout trough the dropship ...on right side is FUEL VENT schematics of the tube
which filling the fuel from tank to tak trough lockable rings...on the left side is view with "new"opened inputs.

I think that THIS is something useful from what we can bounce. :D and build functional world...ALIENS world
(and i can build my Dropship    )

Willie Goldman has posted lots of pics of the film models in the past, but searching on here many now ask for a login, which I think is because his web site's been updated, so maybe send him a PM?

I think locating the fuel inlets on the top and sides is a good idea; particularly the top as if there is one there it can be refueled in-flight like fighter jets are with the tankers? I don't know if I would put on in the pods; to me it seems like pods are for the missiles / armament only; putting a fuel inlet in the same area as a rocket-propelled missile just seems like a safety issue to me, but then I know little about fighter jets etc and the like.

Best,
-SJ

i´ve involved my friend into our "thing"
He is MI-24 Helicopter czech military technician and I´ve consulted the dropship fuel management idea (that big picture) with him...in real world borders of course

He is OK with it.
There is no problem with the fuel inlet and fuel tank near rockets. Arcrafts have fuel tanks in wings and under them rockets and bombs.
There is no problem even with the external fuel tank (that bomb shape thingy) together with the rocket on one rocket holder under the wing.
He likes the idea of inner separated fuel tanks. It´s nothing new, Mi-24 has multiple fuel tanks with switches and pumps between them...

He has one note: The blue "pod fuel tank" is mess in opening the arms. 2x2000 Litres rotated in long arm is little incomfortable. Center of gravity is rapidly changing and
the arm itself looks not very solid :D . Its a movie ..He knows.(and we don´t know the weight of the fuel...maybe is lighter than today´s fuels...who knows...)
There is one solution. Fuel management. Fuel for burning will be taken from pods first... The reentry maneuvre consume both external POD tanks for sure :)

He think that the concept of the dropship and our fan fiction of scifi fiction of the creators (Ron Cobb?) of this craft is righ according to Aliens world combined with the aspect to real world.
............this way I thank him

I don´think that the dropship is suitable for fueling in flight from another craft. Dropship is multirole aircraft...it is fast strike and take off vehicle and cargo craft. It doesn´t need to be fuelled in the middle of action...in my opinion 8)

I'm assuming we'll need to make the leg struts from something strong like dowels/plastic rod?
