Hi guys. Well in my stupidity I hooked up the wrong polarity to my Aspeng digital counter when installing in my Hero rifle and fried the board. I did a search and it appears Aspeng is out of business or not producing these anymore?

My rifle was milled and setup for this specific counter and without it I cannot complete it. Does ANYONE have a spare counter or know of a place I could get one? I am beyond desperate...

Oh man, I wish I knew! That is a true nightmare.

If you do find a source, might I suggest buying a couple for safety's sake?

What exactly is it you need? I make counters (with sound effects too), and have remote displays as well that fit almost anything.

My counter modules: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181434895801
The slave display unit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191187743319

Though if you're going to blow it up I don't know if I want to sell you one :P

If need be, for a small fee, I can design a board specifically to fit the space you have.

Majenko I had heard about your counter boards and had searched hi and low for a webpage with no luck. I am VERY glad you posted those links. I had not really thought about sound but it might be something neat to add on. Can I get your e-mail address so we can work something out? Size is very critical as I don't have a bunch of room in the Pulse so I may need the custom work you are talking about.

There's always the chance I might be able to repair your damaged board. If it was just reverse polarity then it may actually be just a fairly minor (though critical) component that has gone. Some closeups of the board would be useful.

Just playing with an idea...

I'm thinking I might make the "Micro Pulse Rifle" counter (or µPR for short).

Here's a mockup:
Attachment:
uPRt.png
uPRt.png [ 47.3 KiB | Viewed 10346 times ]

Measures 33mm x 24mm with the display right in the upper-right corner...

No sound, very basic operation - support for a trigger to count down and a magazine to reset and not much else. Not sure on price, but it'll be much cheaper than the existing full fat module.

Update: I've ordered some PCBs to try it out with. Should be with me in a few weeks.

I think that's a great idea. I like to have my counter illuminated when the rifle is on display in my media room. I could use the basic counter permanently on (using some hidden power wires etc) then swap it for the bigger version with sound if I want to run around my house like an idiot. :)

Micro Pulse Rifle counter sounds like a great idea (as I'm not a fan of having sound). Any chance of having support for a light-gate as well as trigger pull for countdown?

I'm with septic on this one.

Would like to see an airsoft counter upgrade.

Make it a drop-in retrofit kit to the snow wolf / matrix

-Do the 99 to 95 count down, when inserting the mag.

-Light gate count down function.

-When 00, relay to cut the aeg switch. No dry firing.

I'm in.

Well, I have arranged it that there are 6 IO lines (2 of them labelled for the trigger and mag), so they could be used for any reasonable purpose.

Can anyone provide some more technical details on how the airsoft works? Especially this light gate thing - is it basically a photo-interrupter in the barrel to count the shots? If so, how is it wired and what voltages does it work off?

Woohoo... First batch of prototype uPR circuit boards has arrived. They're diddy :)
Attachment:
uPR.png
uPR.png [ 812.61 KiB | Viewed 10108 times ]

Just waiting on components, then I'll see if I can put one together and program it. I hope all the components fit right ;)

Update: Hmmm... The chips are out of stock. Not expected to arrive till the 10th July. Damn! The chip manufacturer is sending me a few direct to fill in till the rest arrive, but they come from the other side of the globe - may take just as long. Well, we'll see. The displays should arrive Monday though. Not much use without the chip though... In the mean time, here's a partially built one:
Attachment:
uPR2.png
uPR2.png [ 796.05 KiB | Viewed 10079 times ]

Another update: The displays have arrived. Here's how it looks with the display attached. All I need now is the main chip. I have some inferior (less memory) chips coming tomorrow, so I can at least do some testing with it.

Now, you can't say that's going to be too big for a pulse rifle, no matter how cramped your conversion ;)

I'm looking at a retail price of £15 (roughly $25) for one of these boards.

Great!
Hope you get the parts soon.

Any plans for other boards for light and sound effects?

I am working on another board at the moment which does very high quality audio, and it can be coupled with other boards to make a system to do whatever you want. I'm going to be discontinuing my existing pulse rifle board (the one that does everything) with this new sound board plus a slave LED display board. Should make the sound better than the existing board, and allow different displays to be added, such as a 3-digit one for the smart gun, etc.

This new design is very promising.
It would be great to see a Smart gun version with such a board system.

You are creating a high quality sound board to go with the counter board? Count me in!!!! Especially if I can play that audio file I sent you. I'm hoping it will have a headphone jack as I plan on installing a hidden headphone port on my rifle.

Not sure about an on-board jack socket, but you can certainly connect one. The spec I am looking at so far is:

32-bit controller chip, with 512K flash, 128K RAM.
microSD card slot for lots and lots of audio files
16-bit stereo 48KHz CODEC chip
Power amplifier (not sure what power rating yet)

Count me in for at least 2 units with Sound (and Flash).

Is this quickly turning into a sales thread? Should it go to the PX?

I think that any further discussions about majenko's counter should continue in the PX yes.

Thanks folks,

Harry
