The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Thanks Big! Reading your thread was the reason I contacted Shawn to begin with. I had been on the fence until I saw your workup.

Yeah, you two almost convinced me to just buy it outright. Luckily I'd already gotten a vintage guard off Aaron Horrocks so I just bought the front bit off Shawn.
Really great work on this Charlie!

Thank you very much, but I can't really take credit for the flamer. Shawn did an amazing job recreating and molding it. I just painted it. :)

I've done built and painted all kinds of models my entire life, a poor paint job can ruin a great sculpt and a poor sculpt can be lifted by a great paint job. If, as is the case here, both the sculpt and the paintwork are brilliant then you end up with what you have here.

I'd say you can take some of the credit at least

Well today was my anniversary. My wife and I have been married two years. Yay for me!

On a more important (to the forums!) note, two packages arrived today.

Image

Yep, two real Racal headsets. I found a guy selling them in Germany and snapped them up when I could. They are in great condition, although they are missing the mic piece and the headband (I knew about that when I bought them). One step closer to screen accurate though!

The orange piece is a little something from Mr. Noble. I've got two Casio watches that are dying to go in it. :)

Happy anniversary!

Well, I got a little package in the mail from Spat.

Image

Luckily nothing was broken!!

I started repainting the armor this weekend. I took it apart (mostly) and then coated it with silver and clear, like I do for most of the builds.

Image

Just like the tutorial I posted, I used painter tape stencils and multiple layers of color. I started with Dark Earth Brown, then Khaki, then Army Green, and finally Dark Forest Green. I didn't take any pictures though. :(

However, once I was done with the painting, I removed the stencils and rubbed it down with 400 grit and then washed it. I applied my graffiti:

Image

Once that was done, I went over it with clear coat again and then a backwash of water and black paint to darken down the tones and make it look a bit dirtier.

Test fit:

Mounting the shoulder lamp tomorrow, plus some more work on the ab armor and the greaves.

Then it's on to the motion tracker!

Looking pretty badass so far Charlie! Do you have an ab pad? I see you're rocking some Noble grenade straps and of course your fantastic metal grenades, but what is on the other strap?

I do have an ab pad, and greaves, they just haven't been painted yet. The strap opposite the grenades has a sheath for my Gerber MkII. I had two of the ones that come with the new knives. If you remove the cloth bits, there is a hard plastic shell on the inside that actually holds the knife. I'm modifying that to work as my sheath. Right now it just on with velcro; I think I am going to wrap it in paracord.

Well, I finally managed to complete my Personal Locator after sitting on the project for while. For those that remember (or look at the previous posts) I ripped apart a Maglite XL150 to replace the stock lamp in my Matsu shoulder lamp. Well, I took the left over shell and made a personal locator. It's not 100% screen accurate by any means, but I think it works fairly well.

Image

I inverted the light to start. I painted the top section Dark Forest Green and the bottom section matte black. For the the button, I just drilled a small hole and used a large screw (you can still faintly see the phillips head outline; I filled it with bondo but there is a faint trace left). To replace the push button inside, I had originally intended to just reuse the original cap. However, somewhere along the line that got lost. So, I used a spare thimble (yes, a sewing thimble) and jammed into the top from the inside with a bit of added superglue.

Image

Gives it an interesting look, I think.

To make the screen, I just photoshopped a label. I printed it on a standard white sticky back paper, and then used a clear shipping label cover (much like I did for the stickers for my PR and case).

Image

I'm pretty proud of the label. I think it came out very well. You can see the simulated red screen background as and the faint outline of the 7-segment displays. It would have been better if it actually lit up, but this is a just a cheap-o build, so I didn't want to spend any actual money making it. :)

If anyone would like the original graphic I did for the screen, here it is:

Image

I downsized it to 7/8" for printing and it fit perfectly on my locator.

Charlie

Was the maglite that you used to make the locator a XL50? As I can not find a "Maglite XL150".

Thanks

That's correct, I used an XL50. If I wrote XL150, I was mistaken on that.
