The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Maybe so PVB. I though at first that we were seeing the Queen's ovipositor just behind him, but it could be something else. It all gets a bit confusing in the hive...

Maybe he was also being used as a "stand in" in one of the scenes in which the Marines were seen only from behind?

Were the stunt scenes shot sequentially?

Could it be that he was in the Queen's chamber (I too believe that is the ovipositor in the background) in BDUs because they had just finished shooting a stunt sequence during say the initial hive battle?

All I know for certain is that the mess hall scene was shot last. ;)

Jim's holding a flame unit, so perhaps he advised or took part in Ripley torching the eggs?

I reckon the early theory of the sequence for Dietrich being grabbed might be it...

Actually, they could be partially stripped Air Cooled Lewis Guns... With the outer barrel sleeve removed to reveal the fluted air cooling surfaces around the barrel and the butt stocks removed... There are various versions... I'm at work at the mo but will do a bit more research later... The barrel jacket or surround isn't clear... And this is just a very quick guess...

Wow well spotted, I believe that may be the first time they have actually been identified on here. 8)

Am I the only one who thinks Bill Paxton looks a little "out of it" in that pic. Also is that Michael Biehn behind Mark Rolston and if not where is he?

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's Michael behind Mark Rolston...

Look at those clothes! They are sooooo 80s!

Reminds me of the cast of Buckaroo Bonzai.

Ha, yeah Paxton looks like he may have been enjoying the rad 80s Hollywood scene to the max, it looks like Biehn hasn't had a haircut since the end of filming, and damn Ricco is smooth. He hasn't aged a day!

Is that Steedman between Gale and Weaver?

Dunno if it's just my PC monitor, but those pics look like the flash was a supernova, so here's one adjusted for tone:

Geez check out the shoulder pads on Reiser and Biehn! If it wasn't for the fact Reiser was a company guy I'd think they'd both left their armour on under their suits!

Also Reisers right hand is positioned in a less odd location than the first pic!

Michael Biehn's hair looks like it's back to the "teen heartthrob" look.

Crikey - The 80s was harsh fashion wise... Biehn's hair is proper nasty - like he's a 1980s Division 1 Liverpool player... And Rolston and Reiser look like they're dashing off to line up as extras in a Phil Collins video! As for Mr Steedman, he's just checking out Sigorney in that dress! And who can blame him!

I'll take those fashions over all the baggy jeans and oversexed styles of today... pity I was only 12 when Aliens came out. Went through the 80's without really being old enough to appreciate it. People were just...so much nicer back then...

I'm pretty sure the big thing behind the stunt-man is the big pipe that lands in the APC.

Looks like there is some agreement here on the lewis gun

Or more to the point, this thread inspired a savvy someone to update the wiki page (or at least add the 'behind the scenes pic). My shoulder is visible in the reflection from when I took the pic of Cameron.

Watching Aliens (SE) on E4, noticed a certain alarm box on the wall in Hadleys Hope, just after Gorman, Ripley, etc. enter the complex from the South Lock and go though the Last Stand area:

Watching the film again this weekend, I realized a few more things.

When they are first tracking Newt (but don't know it is just a little girl yet), am I the only one that thought Hicks was the guy that took shots at her when she jumped across the corridor? If everyone knew Hicks was innocent then disregard, but I realized Hick's is NOT guilty of trigger happy panic fire at a child after all. It was DRAKE!

Clearly the muzzle flash is from a smartgun flash hider.

I suppose it could have been the targeting software, but that whole thing seems a little unsafe to me  . He no doubt deafened poor Frost and Hicks was practically in the line of fire! Tsk tsk tsk, Drake.

Also I realized Hudson was absolutely obsessed with that japanese love knot (or whatever it was called). He had his eagle bolo tie tied into one, he has one painted on his armor AND he has some paracord on his knife tied into a 3rd one. 3 of these knots on his person (in one form or another)!

Last is a boring costuming note. This is not to say Gorman had no "USCM" nametape strip on all the screen used uniforms, but in this scene he had no "USCM" on his shirt. His jacket def had both his name and the USCM strips, but this 'shirt' is missing the "USCM".
