The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

My latest find... The chap in France seems to have a few... Brand new in the box... With instructions... He deals in old tobacco and lighters and the like...

http://bit.ly/16eqO3T

Just need to find a leather pouch now... But regardless, it's a fantastic pocket filler with my BDUs...

Sorry for the standard of photo...

Cool find. Nicely done.

With the little tool they're actually rather cool in their own right if you exclude the movie link.

I've got one of these clipped on my webbing

Thanks - its a minty mint one - never been used - They are a really cool little piece of kit. I've just found the pattern Matt Noble did for the pouch (back in 2007) on a search. I'll go and get a pouch made up I think... There's a guy near my office a dab hand with leather. I just need to figure out how the pouch layout works with the clips and poppers an such the like...

Anyone got any decent images of an original pouch from all angles?

Brilliant Matt - thanks - Do I go brown or black for SA? (Albeit Hicks only) and what's the score with the extra large brass ring / split ring on the loop with the spring clip on it?

Lovely thanks... Just taken the plans to have a pouch made today... And taken Osmotic's pictures in to show the leather chap how they look in the flesh!

PS - Matt, the chap was flabbergasted and very complimentary about the precision of your plan...

Cheers guys!

I recently bought one of these lighters off another UKCM member. I put vaseline on the inner removable part as advised to help prevent fluid evaporation. It worked intermittently for a couple weeks, but now won't light at all. It's sparking but will not light. Any ideas if there is somewhere it can be sent for a possible 'repair', or anyone on here in the UK that could advise what to do with it?

How's the wick look? Might be time for a new one if the wick isn't absorbing fluid. Sounds like that might be the issue if the flint is still sparking. Not much to go wrong in these little things. I think I replaced the cotton batting or whatever it's called right off the bat when I got mine as well. And make sure you've filled it recently. Mine I can MAYBE get 5 days straight out of, and that's just testing for a few seconds each day to see if the fluid has all evaporated. After that it has all evaporated.

I haven't done anything with it yet, as I've always used the thin plastic 'disposable' types before, and I didn't want to start messing with it before seeking advice in case I broke something, or took it apart and couldn't get it back together again.

I’d check the flint... it may still be sparking but perhaps not ‘enough’ if it’s a bit worn out. These petrol lighters can be really temperamental in comparison to a zippo or a modern reliable gas lighter... I will be getting my gear out this weekend and will check my lighter and get back to you... the wick and flint should be relatively easy to replace... so don’t worry too much about damaging it.

I bought one of these in a Tabaco Shop in a shopping mall many, many, many years ago because it looked really cool! I think I paid $25.00. A few years later, ALIENS was released. As I was collecting stills I noticed my lighter hanging off Hick's armor!!!! Coincidently, it became my first ALIENS prop (not my last).
It's now proudly hanging off my Terry English replica Hick's armor. --Ed

I would start with the flint. As i have said it is a very easy job and will take about a minute.
Slide inner lighter out.
Unscrew little screw on the bottom.
Take out screw and spring.
Remove old flint (if there is one)
Insert new flint, spring and screw. Done!

As promised, got the kit out this weekend...

Here’s the instructions on the lighter. Some very ‘imaginative’ uses for the tool. And instructions on the flint. Nothing about wick replacement. But that’s not impossible either...

Puts blade directly on the portion of the tool you want to press your palm against when using the screwdriver.
