The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey friends!

I've been working on a few armour related 3D projects. It's slow going but I decided to undertake a special task.

Here is a small teaser:

Progress 1.png
Progress 1.png [ 10.27 KiB | Viewed 14054 times ]

Pretty obscure, Only some of you might catch it by the ridge :)

Anyway, I need to know the general size of measurements from the neck to the bottom of the belly of the CM armour, as well as general width at the ribs, depth of the chest piece and thickness of the armour.

Also the size of the holes where the strapping should go.

As this progresses I will add to this thread, as well as any more questions I may have along the way

Thanks!!

Didn't someone else awhile ago post some CAD (or similar) drawings, might be worth trawling through the posts to see

What do you need Moosh, I'll go and measure a set for you.

Just drop me a PM with what you need.

A:CM Weyland Yutani dudes!

(As a side note, could probably be the Rebellion AvP marine armor as well. I have a theory they tried to mix traditional colonial marine M3 armor with the 'more futuristic' look of the latest Aliens Vs. Predator Video game marines. I think it was a good idea. Like the WY guys had the latest versions of the armor which would later be adopted by the marines. But that is just me speculating on a topic no one particularly will ever care about!)

Bingo!

I literally have no idea what I'm doing though haha, this is all trial and error... I'm just going til it looks like something :) haha

I bought the Pepakura Designer program so I figured I should try something with it. Granted it should have been something "simple" but I like a challenge and this is a great community full of helpful people :)

The PMC helmets look cool, those will be last however :)

I don't want to rain on your parade Moosh but you do know there are already Pepakura plans for Colonial Marine Armour available for download? :?

This isn't Colonial Marine armour haha. It is the Weyland Yutani PMC armour from A:CM. I've only asked for the measurements of Colonial Marine armour for reference since both armour types cover the same area :)

I actually have the Colonial Marine armour pep files but I can't figure out how big it actually is haha. :)

Changed the thread title since bigbisont correctly guessed what it is, and to avoid confusion ;)

The armour made from the pep files tend to be too large and deep, so best to start anew. :)

One of our female Marines at LFCC had a chest armour more like the A:CM stuff, so will give her the heads up about your project. 8)

That actually depends on the part, the front plate normally comes out more like a bra and the back like a sleeping bag :)

Moosh: If you want a hand with the unfolding then give me a shout, I'm happy to help out :)

^ I am said female Marine - so hi Moosh!

Below is a photo of my chestplate (Terry English, lightweight aluminium)

Image

I'm 5'4, UK size 12 and it fits beautifully (although I will probably need to re-fit a strap to better hold it in place on the left hand side!) This is the clearest photo of me wearing it I could find:

If I can be of any use to your project, let me know

Remember you can change the size in Pepakura Designer so it doesn't really matter what size your original model is :)

Hey Beth! Thanks for popping in!! Your armour looks awesome!! Great picture! and your avatar is BAD... ASS!

Just a small update :)

Started going back and cleaning up my meshes so it unfolds nicely. Still need to do the back and each shoulder and maybe the shoulder lamp. I really want to do the "Helmet PMC"s helmet too, that'd be cool!.

Chef was kind enough to give me some great measurements of a set of his custom made stuff :)

Thank you all so so much for the help, and you can bet I will be calling on you all again shortly!

Just started back into modelling, I'm bad for starting stuff and leaving it for awhile, due to my fluctuating energy levels. It's coming! I believe I just have the shoulders left to do.

Maybe reaper can give me a crash course on using Pepakura Designer as well :)
