The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: GET OFF THE ROAD!!!
PostPosted: Sun Jun 09, 2013 3:45 am
So driving on some back roads I come across this lazy turtle. Being the animal protector that I am...I stop my car, get out and try and figure out how I'm going to move it. The problem being, is that it's a gigantic snapping turtle with a shell that was about 14" front to back, and about 9" side to side.

Now...I'm pretty educated with my local wild life. But that doesn't mean I go handling it...but I was fairly confident if I grabbed it near the back of the shell, it couldn't bite me. But, I was also worried about it's claws...

Anyway, I pick it up, gently and slowly and begin walking it off the road to one of the large drainage ditches...AND HOLY S**T IT ALMOST TOOK MY F**KING ARM OFF!!!

It snapped around back at my hand with such speed I jumped about 2 feet in the air, and dropped it on the ground so it face planted on the gravel shoulder.

Luckily another motorist had stopped and helped me move it off the road and into safety. Anyway...lol.

Here's a glamour shot...

Man! I thought Canadian wildlife was gentle and polite!

I never would have believed a flipping turtle could be so vicious!

Glad to hear you didn't get bit.

Little 'effer! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles doesn't sound so comical now!

It was a Ninja Turtle hehe, actually its the common snapping turtle and they are very vicious I used to own one, they can even bite you if you pick them up on each side of the shell, also picking them up by the tail does cause them pain.

I didn't want to hurt it, so I tried to grab it just forward of it's rear legs...luckily it's neck couldn't reach that far back lol.

I've heard they could easily bite through a finger...

A cool article on them: http://www.ontarionature.org/protect/sp ... turtle.php

The last paragraph is saddening...they are on the "special concern" list, due to habitat loss and general human foolishness. I wonder, are there any species that aren't on this list because of our disregard of the environment?

Yes they can, I used to use a small stick to move mine, it would bite it then I slowly moved it

That looks like an up-armoured Igquana! (spelling?)

Well done for trying to help, even if it did try to kill you :)

It seams your not the only one that had a "Close Encounter" this weekend Buddy :-0

Gearing up for yesterday's Combat Drop Myself, Adie and Gunny were confronted by this little fella out side my house.....

Not only was he a very Curious little beast but he decided he was going to wander in to my house and chow down on my cats breakfast lol

Cheers

Have no idea mate the pic was taken at 04:30 in the morning so didn't fancy knocking on people's front doors to ask !!!!!

The last we saw of the little chap he was wandering off in to the field that's next to my house :-)
