The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

This is an Expanded Universe notion that just popped into my head, but I wondered what folks thought of the idea of 22nd century Seabees in space? Having learned a fair bit from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seabees) I feel like there's a case to be made for it, especially with the relationship between the Seabees and Marines during Vietnam.

Plus the logo would be really fun to make!

Here's a link to really high res art for the current Seabee logo:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ia.svg.png

I see trading his Tommy Gun for a Pulse Rifle, the wrench for a hand welder, and give him either a USCM helmet or a hat like Apone. Then swap out the background for the USCM Screaming Eagle and it's good to go. Any other ideas? I suppose he could have the gun from the Bug Stomper logo, but since it's already a Thompson I'd stick with a PR.

So here's a really quick version of what I thought the insignia could look like. I didn't have a high res copy of the screaming eagle art, so I had to improvise.

Any thoughts?

Looks awesome.

Given the nature of the medical needs of the Corps being folded into the Corps I'd imagine that the Seabees and their work would have been folded in as well.

Giving you versatile combat engineers/pioneers/constructors. I'd almost say you could call it the "Colonial Marine Corps Combat Engineer School" logo. Hearkening back to its origins in teh Seabees?

That's an awesome idea...

But I think that as corporations take over the world, and space... Corporate worker bees are going to be building most things, and the Marines are used by corporations to protect their interests. From Bepops to Bugs. Much like in the early history of the United States, except that corporations didn't exist yet.

Outstanding piece of work on that design :D

I think the SEABEES will still be active to build their own bases, etc. Plus if memory serves in the Tech Manual isn`t there a ref to them in one of the Grunt tales?

Sure it went along the lines of out in a jungle and the use of heavy machinery digging when Beebops attacked. Something like that.

Shock Wave nailed it, though they are referred to as the USCM Corps of Engineers.

Not really, no. Aliens draws heavily on mixing up US Army stuff and Navy stuff.

Corps of Engineers is more an Army term. US Navy has Seabees and the Civil Engineer Corps, while the Marines have USMC Combat Engineers along similar lines as the Army's CoE.
The Seabees are unique in that they actually go right out into combat zones, whereas the vast majority of the CEC are stationed at Naval bases. A few may be stationed on a ship and even fewer actually in an established combat zone, but they're very rare - Most are fully chartered/qualified engineering types, which means they've had years of training and thus "have a substantial dollar value attached" to them. Ain't a good idea to send the CEC somewhere they might get blowed up... Same goes for the Army!

I always liked how the Tech Manual had the Air Force as the major spacefaring service instead of the Navy.

Cheers Paul.

However in the Tech manual, they ref to Army as separate (so as this is Colonial Marines, it is more a combined Navy,Marines and Air force? Oh I know that`s a new can I`ve opened as the US Marines have the 2nd largest airforce in the US and they alone beat MANY foreign national Air Forces too).

So surely that now puts the guys in the PL`s as SEABEES in theatre?

They refer to the Air Force as a separate service now under the "spacefaring" title of the United States AeroSpace Force with bases that used to be prefixed with AFB now prefixed with ASFB.

Thats a really badass looking logo. I was actually just thinking about something like this the other day because my grampa was a Seabee in WW2. Would it be okay if I printed that off and made stickers and a t shirt? I know I'd wear that around and show it off.

If it's just for your personal use I don't have any problem with it. I should check with Space Jockey though, he is the one who (re)created the Scream Eagle image from the film. Adding my Marine Bee was the easy part!

Yeah, it would be just for me, but I won't do anything until Space Jockey says its okay. I don't really have money to do anything right now anyways. Thank you retro.

Where would you put it? I was considering it early on but it seemed more like something that would go on a "Bugstomper" style patch.

http://www.seabeesmuseum.com

There are some different unit patches there I think somebody with talent can easily modify. They sell a resin seabee that can probably be modified with a pulse rifle, helmet etc.
