The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

PostPosted: Tue Jul 10, 2012 6:53 pm
I hope to be at my First drop in September,I'm doing this for Rob my nephew ( most of you know why ) the thing is I'm not sure what to wear,DK has been really helpful and given me some helpful advice I just wondered if you could all add to that?

I will be coming as a marine, female lol cost is not a problem but I don't really want to spend loads yet till I know we will be making it a regular thing.

Also what about Rob,he's almost 15

Can you give ideas, pics and links please.

What's your advice?

Tia

Your best bet would be to pick up a set of Polish Desert BDUs, and tweak the collars.
That's the cheapest and fastest way to get something that will look reasonable next to other costumes types.

Aside from that, keep an eye on the Base PX and see if anyone's selling any armour or MAA BDUs for cheap.

Or sae up for a while, go to www.spatcave.com and yell

Having just finished a set of Polish camo I can attest to how easy it is to convert. Besides, if you're planning to wear armour a lot of the modifications (including name tapes and chest patches) won't be needed as they won't be visible!

But honestly I think you are missing a fantastic opportunity: with your long blond hair you should totally go as Newt! Ripped overalls, some dirt smudges and a doll's head and you're set to go!

Seriously though, a simple Weyland-Yutani patch on a set of coveralls or lab coat would give you an instant costume too. Not trying to talk you out of being a badass Colonial Marine (which you totally should be), but know that there are lots of options open to you.

The real bummer is how few Aliens fans there are over in England to help you out.

How few.....??!!
See our own UKCM section of the forum?
See that massive pic of us all at the NSC?

We are MANY!!!!! :D

The Weyland Yutani logo is one of the most recognisible in Sci-Fi, thanks to both the Alien films and all the homages in others.
You could print off some WY stickers and whack them on almost anything to create a cheap, easy outfit.

Company Rep is always a nice one - you get to swan around like you own the place (because you probably do!).
As mentioned, Scientist is always good, especially with a Xeno on your leash.

Helen, how about a Marine officer field costume? If you were happy not to modify the collar etc, and attached iron-on patches you should be able to return everything to standard and sell it on again.

I was totally kidding about "no fans in England"!! You guys are so damn organized and sharply dressed, and from what I've read on the UKCM board you all seem to look out for each other. It really was meant as a joke.

Just going to add my 2¢ here- :)

If push comes to shove an easy (but not accurate) costume to put together is a Dropship pilot.

Really all you need to get by is a green flightsuit, black leather combat boots, the necessary patches, and some mirrored Rayban/aviator style sunglasses.

If you want a bit more, add some fingerless leather gloves, a flak vest and (if you can find one/afford it) a flight helmet... although those will definitely not be cheap.

Now putting together an "accurate" Dropship pilot is another story, but what I have outlined above (minus the helmet and perhaps the vest) shouldn't be too hard to aquire/afford. 8)

Best of success!

Kevin

I have links showing how to do the collar modification. All you need to decide is UKCM or USCM with regard to patches

I am planning to get pictures in all of my gear since my weight loss (I think I still look like a linebacker) so I should have this done soon.

PS. I have to wear tall boots with the flight suit legs tucked in because of the 38 inch inseam
