The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Small update again tonight. Put on a base coat before I put on the final coat.
You'll notice some areas are un-painted and some parts should be black but are currently green. This will be correctly painted later. I'll need to mask off those areas. Black part appear shiny for 2 reasons. #1 They're still wet and #2 I put on GLOSS base coat which will have flat black painted on top. I'd have just used a flat black, but I don't have a full can left.

Tomorrow I hope to put on the 'final' coat of paint before I glue the parts together.
By final I mean the coat before the last coat to make sure it has 100% coverage.
I have 2 cans of krylon paint on order so I have to wait for them to arrive before I can properly finish.
Looks like it'll be early next week.

Are you going to do some sort of dowel between the parts to bear the weight and keep the grip and gl bonded to the upper?

Not a dowel. Gonna use glue and putty. I've tested the load weight with some masking tape and as there's a good surface area on the handle and GL barrel I don't think there's any need to add any extra support.

Thanks for all the positive encouragement.
No updates today and won't be at the weekend.
The company I ordered the spray paint called me today to say it wouldn't be going out today so I'll not get it until monday.
No matter. I have UFC undisputed 3 and a photoshop project to keep me busy at the weekend.

Just got home from work and only today the paint turned up so I'll do a bit of painting tonight. Tomorrow it should be dry - unless it's dry by tonight - then I can glue it.
It's not the final coat of paint anyway. Just the areas that'll be difficult to get at once all the parts are glued together.

It's currently gluing together. Should have it finished by the weekend.
I'll take some pics later and post them up. Not really much to see as it's currently all masked off with tape.

Update time.

So after painting the parts with what I call the 'first layer' I glued the GL barrel to the trigger box.
Believe me, it was a REAL pain in the arse. You can't really clamp a round object when you only have a flat clamp.

Well after some thought, I just used masking tape to hold it in position so it wouldn't fall out and it seemed to do the trick.
I then put a little bit of milliput (I've been calling it multiput for the longest time) around the edges to give it a bit more strength.

Next I glued the gun barrel the the GL barrel. Again I used tape to hold it in position.

At the moment the whole thing is in position. I couldn't glue the lower parts to the shroud because it wouldn't sit flush. Grrr!
No matter how much I fiied and sanded off, it still wouldn't sit flush. Then again it came as no suprise as everything else is out.

Image

Once all the putty has hardened and I've put on a sliver of glue around the edges (after sanding) it'll be ready for the final coats of paint and then a few coats of sealer will be added after silver detailing and weathering.

I also need to make a piece of detailing. If you look at the real PR you'll notice a metal piece that's near the stock.
Oh and I haven't forgotten the GL slider. That'll be added before it's complete. It is painted and just needs to be put on.

I'm still working on the magazine and it's uncut and unpainted at present. It'll be completed this weekend.

That's looking great mate.
You can't tell it's a bad cast at all.

I'm loving that stair-mounted iron by the way, something cool about that, I have no idea what though!

No idea why it decided not to stick properly. All I can think is there isn't much surface area to glue so it was weak. If you look at Spats rifle it has a larger flat area to glue. Mine has a gap.
Well the resin is 'gluing' at the moment. Then I'll see if I can get some super glue to go around the edges and see if that holds.

Even with the Spulse there are parts which are best if screwed and glued together, so you might have to go that route in the end.

Good luck. :)

Could it be that the parts making contact were painted before therefore you were gluing paint to paint instead of resin to resin. Are you using zap ca glue? I glued mine together before painting and it bonded very well and strong enough for me to drill through both parts.

Not paint, just a primer to get a smooth surface.
I've cleaned both parts and tried to stick them again. If it fails this time I'll have to sand it back further and try another kind of glue.

What a pain! I reckon you have the patience of a saint with the time you've spent trying to assemble this now!

Best of luck getting it to stay in one piece this time.

John. :)
