The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Im as happy and excited as a child realising they have been locked in toys r' us overnight. The reason? My spulse rifle has made it through customs and is now in my hands :D

Was a little worried at first as when the parcel was handed over i noticed a hole in the side. As i opened there was a bag containing the LED, battery housing and smaller parts. This also had a hole in it with the wires etc hanging out. I thought the curse of Friday 13th had got me. Anyhow, upon doing a quick parts placement i can safely say it is all there.

A big thank you to spat for all his hard work and making these fine kits available. I look forward to putting this kit together.

Cheers spat, i'll be taking pics at various stages of its construction then post the lot here. Lol, a hole in the box was lucky compared to a few deliveries from them in the past

Work on the kit has not been as i hoped this weekend due to not getting much time. So far i have cleaned it and given parts a sanding. Had to re-solder the switch on the LED counter as I accidentally snagged it and broke the wire free (burnt my thumb too lol) . Grenade launcher has been glued together and has bonded very well - having clamps proved a bonus here. after checking the bond i gave it another once over with the sand paper. Tomorrow (or should i now say today due to time) i will bond the shroud and also drill and screw the grenade launcher. Hopefully get to do some work each day on this. Can't wait for the painting stage. Im going to use a green olive for the shroud. Think it would look nice.

It's better that it's taking time you know you will get it right, better than rushing it.

Are you showing pics of different stages?

I can show at different stages or would you prefer i finish it first then post the lot? I dont think i will get time today to bond the shroud. On placing the two halves together it seems one half has a slight bend or curve which results in the two halves not meeting up as they should. Im going to try heating the parts then carefully apply pressure to remove the curvature.

That sounds complicated?
I would like to see it at different stages if you get time

Its not as complicated as it sounds. Spats instructions are very good and explain a lot of stuff. I will come back later and post some pics if i get time to do it.

Yeah i got customs charges for VAT and a handling charge of around £8 from parcel force. They also asked for £12 to deliver it next day. I was not going to pay them that so jumped on the bus

Pic of the grenade launcher section clamped while bonding. Used zap ca glue which has worked a treat. Costs £6.99 for 1oz from modelzone.

Attempt at gluing the shroud. i am finding this part difficult to allign correctly as one side seems ever so slightly smaller than the other. In the pic i am making small cuts into the resin on the sides that will be glued. It will help the bonding process. I did the same with the grenade launcher and that has bonded so well it is like it was never in two halves.

Nooooooooo, disaster!! While clamping one half moved slightly and messed up the allignment. I quickly tried taking the other clamps off to try pull it apart but that glue bonds so damn well in a short period of time. Oh well, i am not one to give up so moved to plan B. The parts were not out much by a great deal so what i did was rub the craft knife at an angle down the join. This acted like a sanding process stripping off layers of resin. This has worked very well but take caution and great care doing this as the blade could snap and end up either in your finger or face if it shoots off with force....ouch lol.

The picture here makes it look quite rough but tbh honest its worked very well and is smooth. Will go over again with sandpaper to bring it to an even better standard.

All clamped up with all edges fitting nicely now. However, still need to do some finer sanding.

Have you used a liquid type of glue or a thick one?Is it difficult to glue and hold together when you apply the glue?

The CA glue is basically the same as super glue Helen, Zap works great with (may even be designed for) resin. :)
