The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So I got my armor from spat today, did some test fitting and took a few Pictures outside. I know I probably need a shave but oh well. Also do not mind my dogs they are to friendly for their own good. As far as the Whole Process with Spat, dealing with him was great. The Paint job from Matsuo is TOP Notch too. Thanks Spat and Matt

Here are some Pictures

Looking good! I always like to see more MAA USCM camo out there.

Now if you'd like to get squared away:

Your sleves should be rolled like a Marine.
These are "gunny rolls", but they're still 4 finger folds:
Image

Also, Cliffe's sleves were acceptable:
Image

Your LC-2 pistol belt is upside down.

And um, shouldn't your leg buckles be on the outside?

And you have some loose straps. In the Marine Corps, you should roll up the excess, and tape them up with a bit of electrical tape. but for the sake of costuming, you might want to just cut off the excess. Both in the field, and playing in your costume, those loose straps can get caught, flop around, and look poorly.

This MAA BDU is not mine it is Doc Vito's who I bought from Nick a tron. I received it with the sleeves tailor cut this way. So they will have to stay as is. I am still waiting to receive my own.

Yep I noticed that too after the fact, I tend to put belts and stuff on upside down being a lefty, I will try and fix that next time I put the armor on and such.

AaronHorrocks wrote:

I really was just trying to get the Leg armor to stay on with out the leg armor falling down.

Yea I need to work on the straps some they did get a little caught and choke me when taking them off after the 1st few pictures. When you say tape them up with electrical tape, do you mean like taping them down to my armor or just taking tape to the excess and taping the it together?

Don't take Aaron's advice to heart too much; I don't think any of the actual Marines in the film would have passed inspection.

Looking good Marine! That's some pretty impressive artwork you have going there! :delta:

So were your hands cold?

(Just kidding- it's what we used to say when we caught someone with their hands in their pockets back in my cadet days. )

Kevin

Thanks Kev, I think it is some of Matsuo's best work yet. I was really going for a 50's Hot rod style/Rockabilly theme with the Pictures. I think it came pretty close. As far as Aaron's advice go I am gonna try and take some of it to heart, like the simple fact of the Belt being upside down, and the fact I had the leg armor on the wrong legs(Left armor on the right leg etc.) The main part I am curious of is the taping down strap part, it would be nice to attempt it so I do not get choked by the straps next time I go to remove the PR or MT. I just am not sure what he meant by it. Like did he mean taping them down to my armor or just taking tape to the excess and taping the it together?

again thanks for the comments Kev I can not wait to wear it in the Parade in DCON 12 or 13, depending on my economic situation.

If I had to guess, I would say taping down the excess; it is what I would do in the same situation.

I'll take a few photos this weekend of my issued gear for refference.

I don't know any Marines that would pass inspection right now. That's why you prepare for it for weeks ahead of time. When you're in the field, lots of things slide...

I wish you would take my advice semi-seriously. Yes, you're portraying fictional charactors from a fictional military, from a fictional movie. But it's still all based on reality. It's one person's vision of the future of the United States Marine Corps. There's far more Marine Corps lingo and culture reflected in the movie then most people here realize.

The charactors in 'Aliens' were both stereotypical Marines, and as far as the company cared; expendable as a platoon, hence the story plot... remember they were what we'd call today as "Sh*tbag Marines". If you wanna be one of them, then you can. Sloppy sleeves, loose gear, and hair out of regs.

As long as you're spending all this money to pretend to be a future space Marine, why not do the extra little bits to make it (as we reenactors call it) a top-notch impression?
And while you're playing space Marine, why not absorb a bit of the lingo and culture? Get into charactor and what not?

Semper Fi, Carry on!

Aaron sorry but sometimes I don't think you get it.

The Marines in Aliens are nothing like your idea and experience of todays modern military.
They were based more on the ragtag, indisciplined troops of the Vietnam war.

So to do a top notch impression of the Marines in Aliens, base it on what you see on screen, not todays USMC.

Get over yourself man.

Aaron WOW that is an awesome costume in your photo mate, any chance you have better pictures of the ROBOTECH RDF Pilot??

Well we had out own experience with a Brit trying to make it "REAL" so guess the Yank`s now have to have one too.

It`s all fun and games at the end of the day with the costuming.

Oh as for the belt being upside down keep it SN "SO NEW" MWWWHAHAHAHA
