The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Rex, can you describe the problems any better than that?

The YMCA footage is really poor quality, as I shot it from my phone. :)

Is the Colony Sweep always without color? The video was tweaked to give it that "helmet cam" look, and also because the source video was a little wonky at times.

If you need another copy of the dvd I'll send one out to you, just let me know.

The disk should play fine on any "Progressive scan" dvd player.

It plays on my 5 year old Apex, but it does have a region free mod chip too. :)

Russ, what happened, is the Colony Sweep started out fine, then once headed up the "hill", started breaking down, losing color, then just froze. I tried replaying it, and it didn't even get that far. :( I can play the rest of the video just fine, no worries.

Not sure what is up with it bro.

Since everyone was having problems with the colony sweep scene, I decided to actually watch it in its entirety. I'm happy to report back that it played just fine for me. :D

As neat as it looks, the colony sweep is probably the only USCM activity I'll respectfully decline partaking in whenever I actually make it to Dragoncon.

I'm looking forward to the parade, though. :D

How the devil did I miss this thread??

Ok, Russ, please count one DVD to send to Ireland. It's not the UK and it's not Sterling - do you want a different price, and should I pay in Euros, or ... ?
Just let me know and I'll have payment sorted in a minute or so.

Yeah, I'm fine. It just seems a little... excessive to me. Who knows, I'll probably get swept up in the moment and go, anyway. But there's so much at Dragoncon, I'll probably just be walkin' around on my own throughout most of it.

Sadly, I was Sooooo dehydrated and my shins were killing me from poor armor padding (unfinished build before the con...) that I was oblivious until AFTER it was done. :(

I won't miss the next one, that's for sure.

Sound like Death By Mugumba is too good for the rest of us grunts. He probably wants to be safe & sound in the back of the APC with the new Lieutenant.

Seriously, you WANT to go on the sweep. It freakin' ROCKS!

OMG, same here! Except for me, it was my left clavicle. I'm thinking of bringing some kind of hydration system with me... I sweated like a freakin' idiot, and I wasn't drinking enough to replace it... but MAN it was fun!

I can vouch for that! :P ;)

During the run my Gerber II knife (excellent black resin casting that Scott did) jostled right off of my armour and onto the ground. With so much clanging going on with my aluminum armour and all, I never heard or felt it drop off. Thankfully Tony was there to pick it up without missing a beat! Thanks again buddy! :D

I think there were at least one or two other marines who lost an item or two during the hustle up the hill. Tony would probably have a better recollection than I.

In my opinion, it sort of was. It seemed like a last minute idea done in haste that really wasn't necessary, but I think someone was expecting to capture some magic movie moment on film by doing it that way. It was still somewhat fun, but in all honesty I enjoyed the 2005 sweep better because it was slower paced, close-quartered indoors, in the food court no less, and with lots of great spectators wondering what the heck was going on! Derek was going like a madman knocking over potted bushes looking for Xenomorphs and really getting into it -- as were the rest of us, knocking over chairs and looking in garbage recepticles with pulse rifles poised. That one really was the best in my opinion. Unfortunately I don't believe anyone filmed it, but someone did manage to capture a few seconds of it just as we finished...

DC_2005_Game_Over_Man.mov (Unfortunately I don't know who shot this)

I'd love to put together some sort of a short and simple script that we could act out in a slower-paced more organized fashion for 2007, and film it as a true on-the-scene cameraman would with fast pans and close-ups on the primary 'actors' as they speak their lines. Nothing expected to be word-for-word, but more like impromptu and serious and in-the-moment.

Hey Russ, wasn't it right after that sweep that we headed back to base camp and you did the "Who the hell are you and where are you from?" stuff? It seems to me I was a little out of breath when you filmed me introducing myself. :P

Yeah... I know what you mean Dom! I remember filling up a couple cups of water at one of the water coolers scattered about in the hotel and offered Alex one. Imagine my surprise when he turned it down. Turns out he came prepared with his CamelBak filled with ice water! Now that's the way you do it! :D

I guess my heart's just not in it that much. My passion lies in simply walking around in costume and posing for pictures and stuff. You know, public relations-type stuff. Sure, there's a plethora of photo-ops during the sweep. I just don't think I can really see myself "getting into the role". Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I'll probably just stay behind and watch the booth. :D

I'm also thinkin' there's so much at Dragoncon and since it's so freakin' large, y'all probably won't see much of me, one way or the other. The sights, the people... the chlostrophobia... the girls. I think it'll all be so much to take in, I'm sure I'll be gone a LOT. Either that or I'll be too hung over from the previous night.

More than likely... I'll probably get lost and panic.

My copy arrived this morning - thanks Russ!!

I haven't watched it yet apart from the 'who the hell are you?' section. It's great to put the faces to so many names!

Speaking of faces we've got a few look-alikes among us:

Tentacle Chris: Greg Proops.
Airborne Mike: Henry Rollins.
Joe Ranger: Lance Henriksen (in a few years).

;)

Oh, and my cover says "It ain't easy bein' cheesy".

Yeah, I've got two Camelbaks Rick... I just didnt think that they would "fit" with the armour... you know? I guess I'll have to trade looks for praticality... unless I want to turn into a potato chip again.

Still no DVD as of yesterday... I almost feel left out. :(

Yeah the "Now Serving #" was the same for all the DVDs. If I'd had a bit more time to think about it, I could have changed them for everyone. You'll just have to settle for having a unique front cover caption. :)
