It's always the left foot. Left is first in everything you do.

Honestly, that's the way that they always "move" Marines. I haven't done any formation drills or close order drills since bootcamp. In Combat Training and MOS School, they'd always form it up, to move us, where the orders are ATTENTION, PARADE REST, LEFT FACE, RIGHT FACE, FORWARD MARCH, and HALT. As you mentioned, all of the "marching" was just walking in step.

This depends mostly on when the order to halt is called; PLATOON... HALT! I think you have to call the "halt part while the right foot is still moving, and then everyone takes one more step with thier left and brings it in. I'll find an NCO to ask.

Some of us do try to emulate the ceremonial side of the Marine Corps with our custom Colonial Marine Dress Blues uniforms, and being flag bearers in the parade, but even then you'll be able to pick out a bunch of mistakes we'll make.
Then take the corrections and be all that more accurate. I won't knive hand anybody and sceam at 'em. Unless you want me to!
I've been in a couple of movies -Before I joined- where I was able to point out this and that was "wrong" or "they'd never move like that" etc etc, and the director, actors, and the like would take the advice. Or course I had been a reenactor for over 10 years, and collect militaria so I have a vast knowledge on the subjects even when I was a civilian.

And to be blunt, the Marines in "Aliens" weren't exactly the most "squared away" bunch either; they were a pretty undisciplined group.
Neither is my Recon unit. But they're still bad-asses. It's just what happens to a tight unit that isn't getting constantly railed. Training and readiness take importance over all the B.S. inspections and being "squared away".

In other words (and this may sound harsh), we don't really "want" to learn all the drill and ceremony that goes with being a Marine... because we're not the Marines and never will be.
I had my USCM impression before I was a Marine. I don't fit into your "never" catagory.

but none of them stood at attention much or saluted once.
I've only stood at attention twice since I reported to my unit, and that was at a change of command ceremony. And in our unit we hardly salute ourselves... our officers are often walking around and they get sick of saluting so they tell us not to salute unless they're wearing a cover, so they often walk around without 'em. And besides you don't salute inside a building, or in the field anyhow.
