The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well after meeting Dan Cooper and TK Lee at C17 at the weekend I have come to the conclusion I definitely wanna get my armour together at somepoint for this. I currently have BDUs, boots, and a pulse rifle. We got talking about how we could make armour fit me and neither Dan or TK thought that Spat's would fit me. I'm 5ft 6in and weigh about 9.5-10stone and I'm a UK size 8-10. So there you can see my dilema, I'm tiny.

TK suggested maybe getting Spat's armour and then trimming it down where needed but after spending so much on the armour I'm not sure I'd want to hack it up. We also discussed maybe making it from pepakura and fibreglass. I've had some experience with pepakura but not so much fibreglass though my partner and his stepdad have both worked with it due to fixing motorbikes. So this may be an option.

Does anyone else have any other solutions for this "tiny" (pun intended) problem?

P.S. Please don't suggest the 1/6 scale BDU's lol thats been covered.....several times.....

Not a direct solution, but I don't have armour yet myself.
Instead, I go for a body armour vest, Dropship style.

That said, I have seen Spat's armour on several people around the same height as you and it looked fine.
If you ask nicely, I'm sure someone would let you try their set on.

Well I was tempted to get Dan to strip but not sure he would have been up for that but I did persuade him to do the Gleek sign as well as pose with rude named soup so maybe it would work ;)

Aren't some generations of MAA's armour taken from the Dietrich armour, meaning they are rather small?

Welcome to the corps, Sam!!

Oh, and I love Marines of smaller stature - they make me look about 8ft tall! ;)

I think I made Dan and TK look about 8ft tall. Will have to find the pic from weekend.

Thanks Pug50 I've been around for a while but don't post on here much, I've wanted to do this since I met the UKCM at the first or was it 2nd LFACC. I bought the BDU's and boots ages and ages ago and got the thicker soled boots so I was a bit taller lmao. Though I've shrunk in weight and foot size since buying my stuff so may have to sell my boots atleast and get some more otherwise I'll have clown feet. Got my pulse rifle a few weeks ago from another UKCM member called Neil just waiting to pick that up in October from my mate Lee who got it for me.

Hey there,

I'm currently building a set of armour from pepakura. The fibre-glassing takes a while but you get used to working with it after a while.

Check out my build thread here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9980.

For the next couple of pieces I will be doing a more detailed description of some of the techniques I have used.

The joy of making it with Pepakura is that you can scale it to your size.

Don't suppose you have the links to the pepakura design do you. I've started a few of the pepakura things but have only done small pieces so far.

I have all the files, but no link. If you search the forum for Pepakura you can find them.

Everybody told me to start small, I found it better to start big to learn because it is a lot less fiddly.

What's with all these female marines coming out of the woodwork? ;)

I'm 5'5" on a good day and about your weight but more like a size 10-12. I always thought I looked weird in my armour hence my reason for selling. Thing is, I never really played around with how it fitted. I'm sure if I'd taken the time I could have got it to fit better. One problem I had was that the pauldrons would slip down. I think going back to Spat's old method of having the shoulders attached to the back armour would have helped fix that. You'd also have to spend some time heating the plastic and slowly bending it into shape to fit better around the torso. The ab pad will also need some work. The standard Spat one was too long for me. I was going to sew my own smaller version but just never got round it.

As Gareth said, the sets of fibreglass armour were supposed to have been cast from Dietrich's armour and so are a bit smaller. They're getting harder to get hold of now tho. Pepakura could be the way forward, that way you can play around with it until you get it to fit perfectly.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link will check it out and save it to my favourites. Need to start a new folder for this on my computer at some point as well as digging the rest of my gear out.

Thanks Vicky, I think you were mentioned by Dan or TK this weekend they said you had armour but had sold it now. I'm sure I'll find a way round it.

Pep definitely seems the way forwards. I'll just have to be a short arsed marine, spartan and iron man I don't mind :D

Well it would seem I walked straight into that one. Lmao.

Just looked at the link to the 405th but seems they have changed their forum so its only bringing up the main page. Does anyone know what the original post on there was called.

Halo Vicky

My armor is very easy to trim or heat and bend to fit. The shins can be trimmed down, as can the sides and tops of the chest and back. There's enough gap from the edge of the armor to where the strapping starts on the armor to easily trim away excess without having to re-strap at all.

Thanks for the info Spat. My main concern was trimming too much off and it losing its shape. Maybe at one of the cons someone with your armour might let me try it so I can see just how much I would have to take off. Would hate to spend so much then end up ruining it taking bits off.

Well, you don't cut blindly! You try on the armor, and mark with a pencil the areas that are overlapping. Trim a little less than where you marked and check it.

We've had girls who were 5'2" and under 100 pounds who we trimmed the armor down to fit. It can be done and it's a lot easier than you think.

Hey, a Marine's gotta have a nickname... this is perfect!!

We have quite a few S.A.Ms among us (Ask SSgt Burton). Height don't mean nothin'. It's always the smaller ones that are the stars of the show.

Never forget that Vasquez was only 5' 3" and she was one of the baddest badasses ever!!

Five six? I could probably just hang you off my webbing... seriously though, I'd repeat what others have said. MAA armour us your best bet... but I'd never advocate giving MAA money.
