The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well I've been pretty quiet again around here.

I hate training this time of year. Winter brings me down. And I loathe training after the sun goes down. Something about training when it is dark out drains the life out of me.

I end up looking for any excuse not to go to the gym, and my workouts suffer intensely.

I also had my ass kicked by pneumonia back in the beginning of February. Had a fever of 104 for five days. Felt like a steamroller had backed over me several times. I didn't train for nearly four weeks. That and catching the average cold has hampered my workouts.

But I didn't give up.

I been to the gym about 5 times since starting back about two weeks ago. Took the first two workouts as easy as I could. I'm about halfway back to my regular routine. Figure it will be another couple of weeks before I'm back on track.

And with daylight savings over (God I don't understand the point of it, nor do I want to understand), and sundown being much later, I will be motivated to go to the gym later at night (as opposed to just wanting to go home after work).

Stay strong Marines! Summer will be here before you know it!

Well, I'm with Dom...I hate training also. I was doing P90X with my wife until she got pregnant with our first son 3 years ago. Then after that I just couldn't get motivated to do it by myself. So, I bought a road bike and met up with an awesome cycling team here in my county. The past 2 weekends I've done 28 miles per day (28 Last Sat, 28 this past Sat and 28 yesterday) and I can feel the fat coming off. My legs, of course, feel like Jello...but it's given me tons of energy after the ride. I haven't come home and crashed on the couch, rather I've been up cleaning the garage, yardwork, etc. Gotta love those Endorphines!

well ive been hitting the gym pretty regular for about 1 1/2 years now , i was at my best about a year or so ago 185 , down from 205 , then summer came and i figured i was doing enough outside to not need the gym as much well add 10 pounds and i was worng , then this winter the wife had surgery so we took some time off and add 5 pounds , so now im sitting at 200 , and having a tough time getting out of bed because of stupid daylight savings time , anyway , i need to change it up so i just ordered insanity from beach body ( p90x) , and i am going to go full steam head first into it , its a 60 day program , and im gonna do it all , the workouts the diet , everything , just to see the results . wish me luck ....

so two full days of healthy eating , no soda , starting out right 200 lbs , 20 to go ...

My resistance bands arrived this morning so I stuck put the P90X shoulders/arms DVD on and got to work. I used the medium band, which according to the website is 15lb a side (I'm not sure how accurate that is). Did all the exercises at 15 reps. Didn't feel tired at all during the workout but my arms are starting to ache a little now (about an hour later).

I'm seriously thinking of starting P90X properly in a week or so when I get back from my vacation. I'm a little concerned about the cardio workouts tho, especially the plyo, as I seem to have zero stamina doing those kinds of exercises. I find it a bit odd considering that I run three times a week but I just cannot keep up with things like star jumps, or any jumping movements for that matter. And speaking of running, I'm wondering how much of a conflict I'll have doing P90X at the same time as my running training. I've signed up for a 5km sponsored run in July, which while now seems ages away is going to be hear before I know it.

I guess I'll just have to jump in and see what happens.

Best of success to the both of you Travis! :delta:

My job has messed around with my work schedule, and it has forced me to alter my workout days. For years I've trained Monday-Wednesday-Friday, but lately I've had to work later on Mondays and I hate going to the gym after 6pm.

So I've had to start going Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday (or Friday). Sundays and Tuesdays are my days off at my job and used to be my days off for training as well. I kind of became very used to being able to do nothing on those days if I wanted to, but now they have become my training days.

So this messed with my head a bit as working out felt a bit less fun and more like "work"- something I "had" to do even though I normally would be free to do whatever I liked on those days.

I've had to adopt this change for about four weeks now, and last week was the first time I went to the gym all three days.

One miraculous thing that happened was I decided to start using the treadmill my last two workouts. Did about ten minutes each time after my weight training. Brisk walking pace (using it more like a cooldown after my workout).

Considering I do no cardio at all, this was a big step for me.

Whether or not I add a full blown jog on the treadmill to my routine, I'll stick with doing a bit after each workout.

the problem for me is at my advanced age , recovery is tough ,i have worked out pretty consistant so im in descent shape ,but the first workout today had alot of squats in it , and now my quads are hurting , and im sure they will be worse tommorrow , now i realize as i do these movments more it will hurt less and less , but im betting the program will have to wait a couple days .so i might just get up and do some weights . oh and i am doing all the proper supplements to help with recovery .

Once again Best of Success Travis!

I've managed to get my ass to the gym consistantly this week. Finally back on track.

I knew I had lost some muscle since my strength was down but I didn't realize how much until I weighed myself a few days ago.

I was just over 147lbs.

Around January I was 155-158, but I had put on a few pounds over the holidays. Got back down to 152 which I was happy with.

Today I'm 151 so I'm headed back in the right direction. I know it has a lot to do with water retention and going down to 147 was not "all" muscle loss (neither is going back up to 151 "all" muscle gain)- but going down to 147 was quite the shock! I haven't been that light since 2007 or so!

Glad to hear everyone is getting back into the swing of things. Only six months until Dragon*Con... for those of you who are going *seethes with jealousy*

I've just come back from a week's holiday so I've done zero exercise and didn't followed any kind of diet - if I wanted chocolate, I ate it!. I was shocked to see that I've put on 6lbs! That puts me back up to 139lbs. Thought I was feeling a bit soft in the middle again. :(

So, tomorrow is the start of my P90X attempt. I've done the fitness test and taken my photos (no, you can't see them so don't even ask), and in the morning I'm printing out a big copy of the workout diary so I can tick off the days as I complete them. I'm hoping that having the visual reminder will help motivate me to keep at it.

Diet wise, it may take me a few days to get back into my old habits. There's not a lot of food in the house and I hate shopping at weekends so I'll need to make a list and get some healthy things back in the fridge.

Fingers crossed I can keep up with it and that it actually works. ;)

X me, baby!

Well, I'll just completely my first week of P90X! I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't collapse in a heap on the floor after the warm ups. ;) I made a point of taking it easy so I didn't do myself a mischief and have to stop before I'd begun. Having said that, I managed to tweak my shoulder on Thursday so I ended up swapping my rest day to give it a chance to recover.

The only workout I don't like is yoga. I find it boring and repetitive. I actually skipped the middle 20 minutes as I couldn't bare to do downward dog or plank one more time. Yes, it'll be good for building core strength and flexibility but right now I'm not looking forward to doing it again next week.

Weight wise, I've dropped a couple of pound but I'm not really paying much attention to my diet. I think once I've got my healthy eating head back on I should start seeing some changes on the scale.

It's just your digestive system getting used to eating different. Give it time and it'll settle down. In the meantime try staying away from leafy green veg (like cabbage) and beans/pulses and get a peg for your nose. ;)

If it really is "that" bad Travis there is a product called "Beano" (pills you take before eating) that should help calm the problem down (at least a bit). You should be able to get them at any pharmacy.

BIG congratulations on the size difference Dom! Feels great doesn't it!

I remember when I wore a size 36 pants (that fit rather tightly) back around 2005. I wear a size 30 now.

The only crappy thing is having to buy tighter clothes.

Well done, Vicky, keep it up. I pondered the Yoga portion of P90X. I'm not a fan of yoga, in fact, I want to skip it all together. Can P90X be accomplished without this portion?

I don't see why not. If you're not looking to improve your flexibility then cutting it out shouldn't make any difference. You could probably swap it out with the X Stretch and get similar results. I'm actually thinking of dropping the cardio/yoga workouts and doing running instead.
