The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Maybe some of you Marine Vets can answer these questions I haven't been able to scrounge the answer for. First of all, I'm about to sew Lieutenant rank to the front of a hat because I am choosing to portray a platoon commander. Is it my imagination, or is the Lt. rank on "Gorman's" hat sideways? Represented like this ( - ) instead of this ( I ). And secondly, is there someone out there making the name tapes for the bdu's in the "Aliens" font, so we can personalize our uniform shirts? Any help ya'll can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dunno about Gorman's insignia, but name tapes can be sourced from several suppliers such as this one:

http://camotech.com/Tapes.htm

You must tell them to use the USCM font.

You need to select the webbing tape, OD with Black lettering, Last name only, with U.S.C.M. on the other one if you're having two. :)

Or you can do what I did and write them on OD webbing with a thick point black Sharpie/permanent marker pen, like they did in the film. 8)

You're not imagining things, it IS sideways. I guess this was supposed to be one of those little things to show that it's the future and things are "different" (like the mandarin collars on the suits and BDUs).

Thanks Steve and Kevin, those were the answers I was looking for. I did notice that the names and u.s.c.m. were printed in the movie, but I'll bet the were stamped. I haven't had very good luck using a sharpie on anything cloth without it looking "fuzzy wuzzy". I'm just gonna get the stitched ones. Also, I guess I'll sew the Lt. bar sideways on the front of my hat, although every fiber of my being screams "Nooooo!" Thanks again for the help fellas.

Like I said, in the film they wrote them on using a pen, as shown on Weirzbowski's screen used BDUs shown below.

The bottom pic is what my name tapes look like. 8) :delta:

I imagine some of them were done better than others, but that's the only pic I have of an SU(screen used) one. :)

Mine fade a little with each wash, so I just go over them again to keep them looking good. 8)

If it bothers you, I'd run the rank the way it's supposed to be.

I always imagined (without having spoken to them of course...) that
the costumers made a mistake when they added the rank. Also, the rank pin I believe is curved and not perfectly straight, so it may have been that they followed the curve of the hat.

I believe the pins are on his shoulders as well, atl least on the service C uniform. I guess they are glued because the pin backs would hurt :(

To Revive a old topic

Was going to order my USCM Name Tape from the above company and had a few questions regarding my order

1)When I place my order along with telling them I want OD green with USCM font and tell them my last name?
2)Do I custom order how long I want the tape to be or will that be filled in with my order if I get 1 with my last name already added?
3) Has anyone tried to order one of these from them in the last few months? I ask as I tried to call them a few times at different times of the day(between 9 and 5 central time though) and a few different days(about 20 calls total) and never got them to call me back or pick up the phone
4) after my order do they just send me a bill via paypal or snail mail?

thanks for the help all
Andrew

Okay- I've never ordered from camotech.com; I ordered my nametapes from 1800nametape.com. This was three years ago, however the service was outstanding and it cost less than $10 for two sets of both my name and USCM tapes (four individual tapes all together).

Here is a pic to show you the quality:

I'll try to answer some of your questions as the two companies have similarities-

I'm not sure what colours camotech provides, however 1800nametape basically had one green colour to pick and that was OD green. You DO tell them you want USCM font and say it a bunch of times as "USCM" can easily be confused with "USMC". Another thing I asked for is 1/2 inch letter height as the standard 3/4 inch letter height is odd looking; it looks "too tall."

Just tell them your last name- you don't use your first initial or anything.

My nametapes came as a standard length that you can trim (although I would just fold the sides under) yourself. If you are putting these on BDUs or a Service C shirt, you just make the nametapes the same length as the length of the pocket you are putting it above. Unless you have a really LONG name, you don't have to mention the how long you want the tape to be.

This would be a big red flag for me. This isn't somebody's basement, it is an actual business, so if they don't pick up the phone, I would avoid dealing with them.

You still have the option of 1800nametape.com, however they do not list the "USCM" font on their website, I had to custom order my tapes. I would email them first and find out if they still have the USCM font in their filebase. If they no longer have it on file (but are still able to make the tapes if you provide them with the file), ask here and I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

I paid via credit card over the phone. No problems at all and they are a trustworthy company.

Hope this helps!
