The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Prop Parts: Smart Gun ammo drum

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew what the ammo drum used on the smart gun was originally off of.

Many thanks.

The ammo box is the original (WWII) MG 42 ammo box with a cover added.

Cheers,

Make sure you get the 8mm ammo drum - there's more than one available and the 8mm is the screen accurate one. It's also the one that Matsuo makes feed trays for if you're planning to use one of his resin MG42s.

Hi

Thanks for that. I have a chum going to Germany on business and said to let him know if I was after anything there, as he will have quite a lot of free time to look around and find stuff.

Just search on the internet, it's how I found mine. Thanks to that I've got a real-steel drum, ready for a mock ammo belt and everything, rather than a resin casting.

Just be advised that the resin feed tray will not hold the real steel drum. You need a real steel feed tray. On my Matsuo MG42 base gun, I made it so that it could be dis-assembled into two separate pieces for easier transport, and the feed tray in combo with a metal plate on the bottom of the gun help clamp the two halves together.

Yeah, I was planning on getting my steel feed tray from Matsuo when I order the MG itself - he offers them for $25 exra.

Good idea on the two-part deal... I just don't know if I would want to risk it, hehe. I'll look into it when I get my kit, though, thanks for the advice.

Hi all

After what seems like ages, I finally got a picture of a MG42 drum magazine. (Sorry the pictures not bigger.)

I just wanted to check its the right one. Its PVC not metal, but that doesn't really bother me, I'm more concerned about it being the correct item.

Thanks m8

It did look a bit odd, but not being an expert on these things, needed advice.

Many thanks

Unless I'm mistaken, that's an MG3 mag.
