The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Thanks for the heads-up Steve, I just ordered a copy.

I'm interested to see what the remastered footage looks like. I already have a DVD containing 'High und Heimkiller', 'Passagen', 'Tagtraum', 'Giger's Necronomicon', 'The Second Celebration of the Four' and 'Giger's Alien' - all transferred from VHS. Those were the days!

Most of the DVD looks great, but the bits obviously done on film/video tape obviously don't look as good.

I'll try to take a couple of screenshots.

Took a few screenies from Heimkiller (1967), Celebration (1977) and the 2005 interviews/documentary Revealed.

I took them from my PC DVD player options, rather than a camera pic from in front of the TV, so they look as good as they can.

Links only as a couple are NSFW.

Hey neat find. I'd love to have a copy of that, but can't bring myself to spend 45 dollars shipped on it.

Mine took 11 days, so I'd allow up to a month for it to arrive in Canada. :)

Ya, that's what I figured. That's okay, I know I will enjoy it when it arrives. We all waited for something like this to come along for quite a while.
I also wouldn't mind a dining room set from Mr. Giger! Freak out the smother-in-law!

I sent an e-mail to them (before I saw Chad had ordered) asking about shipping to the US, and I got this response:

Quote:
Hello Jesse,
Yes, we ship to United States, but unfortunately we currently offer only PAL version of DVD, so we don’t propagate it in States as lot of people there own only NTSC players.
NTSC edition will be available in one month.

So unless you've got a PAL-NTSC converter or your computer DVD drive & software will play it (or you have a PAL DVD player from Europe hanging around), you might be SOL buddy :(
Jesse

:D We have an old region free dvd player... Nothing fancy, but it does the trick. We bought it probably 4 or 5 years ago, because we have several region 2 and 3 DVD's, but mostly it was for our "Black Books" box set.

Here is a loverly quote from Bernard: "...Look at his face. I bet his cornflakes try to crawl out of the bowl".

Thanks Jesse for the heads up! :delta:

Well, it's not the region that's the thing, it's the actual video standard that's used by the broadcasting system, the TV, the DVD player, etc. You can read about it on Wikipedia if you want the full nuts and bolts and a full map of what countries use which: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video#Vide ... _standards

The short list is, that North America and parts of South America use NTSC, PAL is used by Europe and Asia, and SECAM by France, the former Soviet Union, and central Africa. The region codes are just a form of DRM and not related to the mechanics involved with displaying an image :(

Sorry to but in, but if this is a Region 2 DVD then, like all his other Region 2 DVD's, he will be able to play it.
This means his DVD player and television are already capable of playing PAL or NTSC, as are most, if not all, these days.

Hey, no problem! Information is always welcome :D I was worried because in my video production job if we got source material on PAL tapes, we had to have it converted by a tape duplication house, and for a single MiniDV or DVCAM tape is was something like $20 or $30 if I'm remembering correctly (this was a year and a half ago). I don't have anything on PAL to test a DVD player or TV with.

If you have any, UK Region 2 DVD's are PAL encoded, so firstly you will need a multi-region DVD player and then see if your TV accepts PAL signals.
In your TV menu you may have to set your TV display settings to accept PAL or have it on an Auto detect setting.

Heads up!

Just read this on the official Facebook page:

Quote:
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are happy to announce that HR GIGER REVEALED is now available in NTSC for regions U.S.A. and Japan! Merry Christmas to all our fans!

The web site order page doesn't mention the new version yet though, so you might wanna wait a week or two:
