The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Actually it's no (real) computer at all. Apparently they used a briefcase and fitted it with a monitor, a keyboard and some other greeblies (including compact cassettes, speaker connectors and a microphone as a joystick).

Cheers,
Stefan

Yeah I figured it wasn't a real computer either but a film prop instead (once I saw the pic on Willie's site):

It looks like a modern automobile fuse block in the lower left next to the keyboard. The kind that uses these type of fuses...

Image

And just above and to the right of the keyboard, it looks like they used a couple of these stereo speaker connections...

I think the hardest part will be finding the suitcase. I've been looking for that one from time to time but with no luck yet.

Cheers,
Stefan

Behind the scenes:

Uplink has vertical lines while Burke's suitcase has horizontal lines -
so Burke's suitcase is differend from the uplink!

When Bishop enters the tube to crawl to the uplink you can make out some kind rectangle (logo??) on the lid of the case.
Sadly, I couldn't get a decent screenshot. :(

Cheers,
Stefan

That keyboard doesn't look normal symbol-wise.

It looks to me like the top of the case has had a hole cut in it and been repaired with a taped on panel. The hole would be to put a real TV in to show the dropship HUD display as they didn't have slimline TVs in them days.

Yep!
The keyboard is probably only a dummy. When Bishop is typing there is no movement of the keys at all.

Cheers,
Stefan

The surround appears to be foam. The Enable button definitely operates :)

A guy called Ian Maw sent me a link to some photos he took at Alien War back in the day. There's a really good hi-res one of Bishop's Computer among other things - here's the link:

http://ianmaw.smugmug.com/Other/Props-from-the-film-Aliens/11236090_EnWpz#788059855_8WyTi

I asked him if these were all he took and he replied that that's it - he didn't take any more.

It's the control console of an Aliens hypersleep chamber.

Cheers,
Stefan

PS: Looks like it uses the same timer/counter like the uplink.
