The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well I cant speak for the rest but I cancelled mine due to money needed for other projects. Down the line Ill try get my hands on one but for the moment this is the best option for me. I already have a PR with real spas cage and airsoft thompson etc so am happy for the moment but definatly will try to get one when things pick up.

I have no doubts its going to be a quality piece so dont mind waiting in that regard. Refund came through aswell so happy enough.

The only reason I canceled mine is because I need funds for other things. I didn't do the 6 or 4 pay, I just did a pre-order but things have arisen and I need the funds elsewhere. I really hope they come out within the next few months because I will try and get one then... but other things need my attention now :-)

Wow. I cannot believe how many of you are dropping like flies on this!

I mean, I could understand if you had no or little money already down on this much anticipated item and then suddenly couldn't afford the rest in a lump sum payment. Things happen, finances change. Can't afford petrol for the car, or enough food for the family? By all means, cancel your order and get your money back. Know your priorities.

But to cancel simply because you cannot wait any longer? That just seems a little silly to me, especially in regards to such a long awaited holy grail to our collections. Perhaps if we were dealing with an unscrupulous individual making pulse rifles in his basement, or even a company that has had a less than stellar record (like Icons) -- then I could understand. It's better to get some of your money back rather than none at all. That I get. But unless someone has heard something that I haven't, I have no reason to add my name to the list of drop outs.

I will be honest though... if these items are indeed being produced in China, the whole recent crackdown with China Customs does bother me a little. I don't know what the letter of the law is on replica firearms exported from China, but the whole situation over there does seem a bit sticky right now.

Regardless, I'm still on the list for a Brown Bess version with 3 of my 4 payments already made. I'm definitely a patient man, and continue to watch with anticipation when that last payment is made from my credit card.

However, if for any reason the release of this pulse rifle is pushed back to Christmas of 2010, I will give them until January 1st 2011 before requesting a cancellation and credit.

I've been waiting for aluminium shrouds for far too long. 8)

well i guess its a good thing i don't have to justify my actions to you.

That's right... I'm not your guys' mom. ;)

However if I were, I'd probably be saying something like...

<your mom's voice>

"You paid how much for that?"
"I don't care if the shrouds are made from 24 carat gold!"
"What do you mean it's for hunting Xenos?"
"Stop playing with your food and eat your corn bread!"

</your mom's voice>

I've already been down that road with everyone in my family. Ironically, it's my dad that's the most critical. Being ex-military, he has absolutely no idea why I would even consider dropping that sort of cash on a replica weapon that doesn't even fire. :|

However, I think I managed to redeem myself in his eyes a little when I bought a real live-fire SA M1A1 last January. Want to know the real irony? It only cost me $50.00 more than this HCG wall hanger.

I'm just sick and tired of having the money in my account and not being able to spend it....bonuses are meant to be spent.....not looked at!!

If you saw my Pulse Rifle though you'd know why I'm holding out for this one ;)

I'm used to companies that adhere to deadlines. If they specify delivery at X time, they either manage that, or pay a penalty.

If I had ordered one, I'd have backed out by now, myself.
At the very least, I'd expect a full and detailed explanation of precisely why I'm not already furnished with my item, given how much money they have taken off people....

Quick call to the HCG office and the nice lady told me that they are still in production and should be shipping the first few weeks of the 2nd quarter and 'shouldn't go any later than that'
She seemed knowledgeable about it and not just guessing....so I'm encouraged :)

I forgot we're already into March so its only a few weeks away.

The ebay seller I bought mine from just sent an update. The molds did not pass quality control and the new date is spring of 2010. I don't know how much different that is from the news that is out there, but I can't imagine molds not passing quality control can be a good thing.

Well if that's the delay...I'm ok with the wait. Lord knows if a sub-quality product is released it would be terrible for all!!!

Quality of the final product is really my only major concern. Having it sooner would be better, but I can wait a while longer if that's what I have to do. As long as the quality of the final piece meets or exceeds my expectations, the wait will have been justified.

My 2 cents... If this is being built in china give it 6 months to a year and another factory in a different province will be producing this for cheap.... Just google chinese motorcycles and you will see about 900 factories producing 125cc-250 yamahas and hondas, lol.

Using substandard and/or mis-matched parts.
I speak from experience... mostly of trying not to laugh, while watching my boss at the time fall off his Jin Cheng copy in the car park, as various bits failed. He had such faith in the low-cost aspect.

The Korean stuff is getting quite good, though.
The Hyosung Aquila has some rave reviews!!

Maybe we can get them to build our Pulseys next run?

Update with picture posted today on the RPF by Mark.

Quote:
Okay update time Guys!

Here are the first shrouds from the molds - yes aluminum!

To answer a few posts I have seen;

1. I have the only proto. Anyone who says they have seen one & it is "falling to pieces" is, should we say "misinformed".

2. Delays have been due to the length of time taken to get the molds for the shrouds right. Not due to QC issues, rejecting molds, Alien abductions etc..

3. We are looking at having these ready to ship in approx 3 months from now. I know it is much later than advertised, but that is a result of attempting something never done before. Fiberglass shrouds could have been produced 6 months ago.....but we want aluminum, right?

That's about all for now.

Mark

Wow! Very excited!

They look great but I do wish the mag release and the other parts that are usually Aluminum sheet like the back strap and trapezoid pieces where separate and not part of the mold. Just a small nit to pick.

I really hope it does not get pushed back again in June.

I wonder if they'd offer just Alu shrouds as is, given that they clearly can make them like this...

Awesome update. I have a feeling that some of the people who canceled their orders are going to be kicking themselves.

Those look to me like one piece castings, so the shrouds won't split in half - making buying them to add to a custom build of dubious value.

Sidewinder, I see seam lines indicating that there are two halves. I also noticed what looks like a mag base in the middle of the lower shroud.

Edit, they all have them so my guess it that it is some sort of mold plug or key.

Was just going to point out that they all have them. :)

The bottom of the mag well looks like just one whole cast section. There do appear to be seam lines, but I wonder if that's just from the mold, rather than a join between two loose sections of shroud?

I thought I saw seams too, hence pondering.
I might not even bother since I actually like the feel of my shrouds, but it's a thought...

The seams are probably from the molding process, the piece in the carry handle space is likely sprue to aid metal flow within the mold. Further to that, note that it crosses from one 'half' to the other, backing up my one piece hypothesis.
I'd wager that these will be solidly screwed/glued together making disassembly difficult if not impossible.

All that said, kudos to HCG for doing what was once thought to not be commercially viable in a low production prop run.
