The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

:D :D :D :D YES, all send me $200 now!! :D :D :D :D

The original Quad when released in the UK was £79.99 -- I keep my receipts in the boxes just in case I need to take them back (even though a lovely lady bought that set for me ).

But like dvd's, the price will fall dramatically when people start buying en masse and the format becomes dominant.
It's all speculation now anyway - nobody knows the price yet - so I wouldn't get too excitable, peeps.

Damn man, I got jipped!

I remember when that set came out, Best Buy had it for $199 and I remember I couldn't buy it because it was too expensive. I saw it on the shelf yesterday for $49.99.

Honestly tho... you can call me crazy, but I WOULD pay $200 for a blu-ray set. I Watched ALIENS on my Blu-Ray last night and it looked great up scaled... so I am anxious to see the actual 1080p version

Even that sounds a lot for these days. The first place I just looked for it had it for £9.99.

That's not going to happen, Tony - as far as I know all the extras on the Blu Ray will be SD (Standard Definition),
with only the films themselves being in HD.

You not got a Blu Ray burner yet then? :p
Parts of the doco are coming from an HD source, right?
Burn me a copy if I show you my BluRay receipt? ;)

No, I don't have a BR player or burner. Just a Mac with a turnable handle on the front for starting.

Quote:

Yes, two thirds I shot in HD but my system doesn't have the processing power to deal with HD anyway (not a chance!).

Quote:

Sorry mate, I'm afraid everybody is going to have to wait for the official release.
But I will have a screening for y'all at some point.

*****
As I said, the extras are in SD (as far as I know). The reason for this is because there'll be a lot of stuff going on and it wouldn't fit if it was all HD. And most archive material is in SD anyway, so it'd be pointless rendering it up to a higher resolution.
Of course, the upscaling these BD players perform on the fly when playing SD gives you a great picture.
And the guy producing the dvd is acknowledged as one of and probably is the best in the business, so it'll be the bestest release we've ever hadded - and that's saying something, as we all knowses.

And anyway - FM -- you're way to ugly to be seen in HD!

You misunderstood me, dude.
I meant, once I buy the Blu-Ray... Any chance of a copy of the doco if I can prove I bought it already? :)
But if your system can't process HD, not much point...

For the sake of arguement, Alien has been released officialy in 1080p for the short-lived D-Theatre, and both it and Aliens have been broadcast atleast once in Hi-Def on HDTV.(I have a copy).

I'm just kinda curious though, since this thread was started in 2008 and said "upcoming".... where is it? :(

Dang... still a long way off. I certainly hope thats because they're putting alot of time into it. Of course i'm really only interested in Alien and Aliens + Extras since... I try to just pretend 3 and 4 never happened.

What I'm wondering is, why does that otherwise cool looking Alien have a foot that looks like a diving flipper?
Ludicrous. Maybe he's going to do a spot of snorkelling ;-)

'Also, a new sound mix has been done for the extended edition of Alien 3, which involved bringing back some of the cast to reloop their dialogue.'

Nice :)

Kind of intrigued now to see what addded extras will be in the set

Right there with you! I'll be happy if they fix the poor sound quality of the A3 extended scenes.

It's going to be my first Blu-Ray purchase!

Hey maybe I should buy a Blu-Ray player while I'm at it!

Photos of the packaging and "editions" have been posted up on the home page of AvpGalaxy.

Looks like this will be a 6 disk set. Nice box art and a limited edition where the discs are housed inside an Alien Egg with an Alien blended into it. Looks good anyway.

Cheers
