The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I have now tracked down a 1/32 vulcan bomber , and got hold of the landing gear from it..

Does anyone know if the landing gear for the dropship was modified ? the leg I have is Y shaped, which is slightly too big for the (well?) in the dropship

So before I either cut more out of the dropship or cut up the leg ... anyone know ? or have picture of the top of the landing leg from the dropship..

Thanks..

By Y Shaped, are you referring to the hydraulic piston that comes
off the landing lag @ approx 45 degrees on the kit? (i.e. the bit i've arrowed)

Image

If so, the position of that hydraulic ram ( for the kit ) is as it was for the
Vulcan with the landing gear down.Looking at some piccies, 'it appears'
to me that the hyraulic ram on the front has been set at a less acute angle
on the fullsized Dropship (approx 30 degres-ish ) . I'm not saying this is your answer,
but worth considering chap.

Image

Quick update - cobbled some piccies together to show better what I mean. I'm assuming
you have the Vac Formed Heratige Vulcan as that's the only 1/32 scale one I'm aware of,
and your landing legs are the same as the one in the image. Anyway, if so, looking at the piccy,
the angle of the piston on the kit does look out compared to the actual Vulcan and the DS leg,
which look to have a very similar if not the same angle.

Yes it's the Heratige Vulcan kit, the Y shape bit is the top of the leg, not the hydraulic piston as arrowed in photo.. if you turn the arrow around 180 ... that's the bit i'm talking about... if that makes sense..

I know this is an old thread, but are the new parts from SWPROPMAKER now available for this kit?

Nice pictures looks great, those that have been following me will know that i have been in Hospital for the past few months , and i'm selling off a load of stuff, it also means that i am going to build only one more kit for a while (due to having two small children and lack of space  ) the drop ship will be the only build i will finish it will the crown in my collection when done and it will well out of the reach of little hands..
over christmas i will get my dropship out of storage and see what parts i have , already decided to go back to the scratch built weapons pods i made from plastic card , so i can fill them with missiles

so this build will be part of my rehab and get me more focused on things ... though me filling up the spare room with model kits will not go down well with the wife

Update ... at last got my dropship kit out of storage , forgot i had brought the missile kit ( so now have 3 1/32 Aircraft and Helicopter kits to get rid off / trade)
so i have all the parts i need to build the dropship .i will build in parts ... the main body .. the missiles pods will decide if to have the pods workable ie deployed .... the cargo bay will be built separately and will be put in once finished , lot of work on the cargo bay to be done , got to figure out where the extra seats and weapons rack go ... i think they go near the cockpit door way ? i have cut out the cockpit ,which will be built from various parts mainly a Hind helicopter convert kit ...and the main body so i can fit in the cargo bay.

i have found a guy in Poland that sells brass minigun kits both 1/32 scale and 1/35 scale ... just the barrels , but at £3.99 for the 1/35 and £8.99 for the 1/32 scale postage is less than £3 might get one of these 1/35 scale ... i know it is not the correct scale but for that price might as well buy it ... unless someone else knows where i can get a 1/32 or 1/35 scale minigun kit ?

Isn't there a 1:32 A-10 made by Revell?

Google says no, but there is one by a Japanese company called Trumpeter, although they go for about £50 and above on auction sites.

Thats the one.

It freaking huge and a lovely kit to build, I'd recommend buying it and recasting the vulcan.
The decals are rubbish though.

ordered my minigun it's brass , just the barrel parts £6 inc postage but will take about 2 weeks to get here .. ordering a few other parts , i did have Dragon models , 1/32 Vietman helicopter pilots and gun crew figures , but guess what? can not find them now.. :x :x so may have to look around see if anyone still sells them ... am i the onlyone still not built their dropship ?
having 3 1/32 model aircraft kits and a Apache helicopter kit as well and a 1/24 scale Harrier , i may not have to worry about decals for this build ... though sods law will dictate that i will have to get some extra decals printed

at last found my helicopter crew figures (dragon) minigun kit arrived nice , but i got the scale wrong ended up buying 1/35 scale not 1/32 :( still once its built it should look ok still waiting on a few other parts , before i start this build ,

While i think about it was i the only one who ever brought the 1/32 scale dropship kit that was mostly made from plastic card that was sold through Comet Miniatures many years back ? it was mostly pre cut plastic card with a few vacform parts and fiberglass missile pods
i only ask because i found it today half built sitting in my parents loft !

Yeah, this is why I have to get back to this forum more often, especially as my name was referenced by Jon back in 2010 with regards to the DS club kit.
Newer members of the forum may not know me from a bar of soap, but longer established members can confirm that I did at one time have a larger part in the forum. I must stress that my abscence from this board has never been due to any issues with the membership or what goes on here, more that I really did "burn out" on Aliens for quite a few years and real life totally took over. THANKFULLY I got rid of none of my Aliens collection over the years

Back to the dropship kit. It was very exclusive and limited when the whole project was commenced, but it was allways in my mind to be community project with input from all, as much or as little as the individual could contribute. I was never under the illusion that it would be a shake and bake Tamigawa style kit, and in a large measure that was the attraction. I would be interested to know how many of the original club retain their models as at least one made it's way on the open market across to Oz to the hands of a sci-fi modeller over here.

At all times I was active in the club the flow of info and help seemed to be open and unrestricted, especially from Willie, Harry and Jon but I see a disconnect has occurred in the intervening years. I have nothing bad to say about Jon, but I can state that Willie and Harry are the BEST friends I have never met on the net and I will forever be honoured to have done so much with them.

Just wanted to add my two credits worth and I hope that I am welcome back here.

Back to your scheduled program.

Cheers

Tony
