The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Sega just donated £500 on our Justgiving page

The game is amazing and looks like it's going to be great fun to play. It's not finished and has some issues left to work out, but I can tell you: The multiplayer is gonna be a blast!

You guys get a Goodie Bag too, then?

How was the game?

We did indeed, almost blagged two of them lol but felt too cheeky to take both. It has a copy of the box set with all of the Alien/Predator and AVP films in. A WY Lanyard and a Sega USB stick with the AVP 3 press kit on it.

The game looked awesome. They were demo'ing (sp?) the multiplayer stuff. We didn't get a chance to play it ourselves but from watching others play it I'm looking forward to it's release.

Yeah, very cool. They said they were going to donate £500 and asked if that would be enough. We were kind of like "uhhh... yeah"

Hope to do more stuff with them in the future, who knows. Be good for the charity bucket anyways.

Cheers

Fair play to SEGA.
Whatever people may say about them, that earns them some respect in my eyes.

I'd have gone along myself, except I don't yet have full kit and I'm not as pretty as Darren or Abe ;)

Are they planning a large release event, do you think?

We were first engaged with Sega to do with Aliens:CM. However, that game is well and truly shelved for the moment.

Don't worry. We have plenty of good things on the cards coming up to do with the AvP game. Fingers crossed.

£500 –– OUTSTANDING! :D

Nice work, peeps.

I think Sir Johnus of Oddballus/The Movieum of London are doing a launch event for the new AVP game.
I'm sure he'll post about it nearer the time.

I can't wait to play this game!!

Fingers crossed that will be confirmed.

It would be an amazing venue for such a thing.

In a way, it's a shame NSC isn't in the centre of the universe (London), cos that would also be cool!

I'm wondering if SEGA will see how AvP goes and, if it's successful, they might give that contract over to Rebellion too.

Amazing to look at, maybe.

I read somewhere the reason they've shelved it is that it took Gearbox 2 years to achieve what Rebellion bettered in 6 months. One review said that ACM was linear, whereas AvP is free-roving - A popular thing in games like HALO. If HALO and AvP can be like that, why then is Gearbox limiting the player with a linear adventure?

I think they'll approach someone else to finish it off, if and when they feel there's a market for ACM.

Changing the developer of a game in-development is not something a publisher would want to do. In fact, is it even plausible unless the game was essentially being redeveloped from scratch? Wouldn't it be a nightmare for trade-secrets etc?

Are we confusing "linear" with "on-rails"? IMO at least, the Halo single player campaign is linear - you need to do certain things and trigger events in order to move onto the next objective.

If AvP is successful, Sega will arrange for Aliens:CM to be finished by Gearbox. If AvP doesn't do well, then ... I dunno.

:o

Sorry, I know a couple of people in Rebellion, and how looooooonnggggg AvP has been in development.

Your answer to to why AvP is taking priority over colonial marines can be seen in all the photos and excited cries from conventions: "look, an Alien!", "Look, a Predator!", "Aren't you from Halo/Stargate/SAS?"

Yep, it's a nightmare of breach of contract, failure to deliver legal shenanigans and then finding another developer that can pick up the project, learn the toolset, fix and replace all that needs to be and still hit the required submission date. Not a course of action that a publisher takes lightly.

Stressful for the developer that gets lumbered with picking up the pieces, too

I meant the first 6 months of development.
