The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

No IR sight either, but what i have noticed is that the swivel bail has been re-welded on the ear peice cutaway. Most screen used i have seen have the strap on the ear peice. Interesting.

If you look at the screen caps the IR sight is not visible most of the time, I don't think . So IF this were a stunt helmet only then they probably wouldn't have bothered installing one since it would never be seen anyway.

Mic booms were directly taken from a Beyerdynamic DT-159, weren't they?
Or am I just being a pedantic tit?

I'd go with the latter ;)

As far as I know some of the mic booms (including the one that's on my Hudson helmet) were non-working dummy versions.

Darren's right about the I.R. sights, it seems for the most part they were only used when absolutely necessary; such as a close-up or when it was in use. This was probably due to the fact that they were so fragile.

Dont know if this is of any consequence but the helmet looks identical to the one I have and I know there was definately an identical one for sale.

I purchased mine as part of the Charity Auction items from the Aliens convention at Shepperton Moat house in 1999.

The paperwork that came with it goes as follows

"this Colonial Marine helmet was an original movie prop used in the 1986 James Cameron film "Aliens" from 20th Century Fox.

"This particular helmet was worn in the movie by an at present unidentifed actor/colonialMarine.It features a side mounted camera and rear protective neck flaps. It is missing the left side ear piece flap with microphone stalk .It has been left in this current condition for reasons of authenticity and not restored with replica parts. This prop previously belonged to the Harry Harris Alien Archive collection".

Could that helmet be the other one?

That's definitely the one ukgrunt. Here are some images of the one you now own. These were all taken back in the 1990's.

Harry since you had or still have some in your pocession , is that brown humrol98 ?
Not sure if it is the light or what but it does not look like it. I have another pic of a TE armour somewhere where the brown looks more like a purple tone (98)
If this has been brought up before , sorry.
I say it again , it is an awesome helmet and that is a very complex cammo
Pattern , would Terry have painted that?

I bought the helmet, plus a similar one and Ferro & Spunkmeyer's flying suits for £140.00!! I think I sold the helmets for a few hundred pounds each a few years later.

I sold both helmets back in the 1990s so I'm unable to tell you about paint comparisons I'm afraid.

In terms of painting the team doing that was Terry English plus four other folks. I was told recently that just for fun they incorporated their initials into the camo designs in various ways too - something I also did on the Dietrich armour that's on my site here, although what I did wasn't that subtle! ;)

It appears the helmet has been withdrawn from the Propstore website.

That's odd, they usually just mark items as sold and leave them in the 'new additions' section for a while.
