When I looked into casting, that was the first speck they wanted to change in order to cover themselves QC-wise. And your point brings out the base problem -- you're talking about 1,000 units. This is all very interesting stuff....., I for one am just thrilled that a screen accurate official replica PR is finally on it's way. I am not even into guns really but have ordered one of these (had to be BB) from Propstore of London. Ever since I saw Aliens when I was 14 I fell in love with the hardware in the film and the PR has truly become an iconic movie weapon! back in '89 i ordered a replica PR from Comet Miniatures, can't even remember how much i paid for it but it needed a LOT of work! it's still sitting in the loft now unfinished! I have waited 23 years for this PR and can't wait!!!!!!

Getting back on track, I just received this email response from Mark at Hollywood Collectibles.

Hi Art,

All we can divulge at the moment is that the shrouds will be aluminum, as in the metal, not a resin/aluminum mix. If we were going to go that route we would have used fiberglass which would be better than a resin mix.

Still vague (and I can't imagine why) but at least he said it isn't a resin/aluminum mix which makes me feel a lot better.

CC statement came today - 5 payments down and only 1 more to go! So if these puppies ship in December, as I believe they were originally supposed to, it won't be long before some of our questions will be answered once and for all. Since this will be my first PR ever, I'm getting increasingly excited about its arrival.

Pretty sure I've got a vintage M60 MG sling in storage back home, so if I can't find a SA PR sling somewhere, I guess that'll do the job for the time being... "Here, feel the weight."

Am I the only one who is checking this thread every day to see if there is any news??? Can't wait to get my hands on this sucker!!!!!!! Also.... does anyone have any idea how much this thing is gonna weigh???? and what about packaging? is it likely to be in a fancy box of somekind?
I did pm noble a few weeks ago re a sa sling but no reply yet? anyone any info? cheers.

I'd venture to guess that it will be well packed, hopefully in an attractive Aliens-themed box... as to weight, probably gonna be on the heavy side. I'm having mixed feelings about that final payment coming soon, 'cause I know it'll include the shipping + California state sales tax... uggh! No getting around it, but once that's out of the way, nothing but pure joy!

If anyone has a line on SA PR slings, I'd also be very interested in obtaining one. I don't want to be humping that mutha all around Dragon Con next summer without a proper sling!

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look into that. I got some first class grenade straps from Matt last year and I hope he does decide to do another run of slings, especially with these new PRs on the way.

I'm also startin' to wonder what kind of packaging they'll be in... having Hicks deliver it would be cool as hell, but I'd personally prefer finding Ellen Ripley on my doorstep...in a cheery mood, of course.
